I was at the Lunch Bunch today and Dave Wilson was the speaker.

Before speaking, Henry Holiday addressed the group about the negative impact on this was to the school, especially being on regional TV.

We are not the University of Georgia so let's do not behave like them.

The first topic out of Coach Wilson mouth was Coach Gailey's concern of the negatives:

1) The negative impact on the team.
2) The encouragement it gives the opposition. BYU was waving their hands and trying to encourage more booing from the Tech Fans.
3) The negative impact on football recruiting. We had one of the top linebackers in the nation at the game and the coaches can not assess the damage done by the booing.
4) The negative impact to other sports programs. Coach Hewitt had a major recruit in and who knows what the impact was on him.

My comments:

When the team was in Seattle, all the media and bowl officials commented on the great behavior and class exhibited by the football team. It is a shame that some fans and Alumni want to destroy that image and goodwill

As far as I'm concerned, booing in a college game is uncalled for. I was disgusted by the boos on Saturday. OTOH, just about every school has some boobirds. Even the rabid UT fans booed their team as they left the field for halftime after falling behind by 24.

I wish that Tech fans didn't boo. However, I think we're preaching to the choir on this board and the Hive.

The only people that should have been booed on Saturday were those dang officials that missed all the holding and missed the face mask penalties.

And the controversy continues. What a revelation! Most coached do not like booing! What else did we expect a coach to say? They are the chief benefactors of the booing. Of course, they do not like it.

I doubt if the booing had any effect on the possible recruits. When it gets down to signing day, most all blue chip recruits go to the school which they consider the best option for playing early and making a name for themselves.

The next item, which is almost as important, and sometimes more important, is their like or dislike of their personal meeting with the coaches or a given coach.

Booing is so far down on their list, it is not even worth mentioning.

Ah,
I am afraid I am starting to agree with Beeware on the particular location up which you have stuck your head. I am actually surprised at your position on this. Surprised and dissapointed.

Ah..

I disagree with you on this thread too...

I am curious.. just when was the last time you spent any time with a recruit to make these determinations?

Dont kid yourself... it does make a difference to these kids...

I agree. These kids are the Institution for academics, first, then football. Although I felt like booing, it is uncalled for and Suggs already has little confidence as it is, so we must encourage him and get his confidence level up, because with Holiings injury, he has got to step up. BOB and Chan have got to get him comfortable. Booing in the NFL is one thing, but in college there is no place for it.

It is simply amazing that some do not get the picture. I have stated here and on the Hive, I have never and never will boo an amateur athlete. All teams are a mirror image of their coaches. However, I will definitely continue to boo bad calls from the referees, and repeatedly bad calls from the coaches.

It is fine if you disagree with me, but it does not make your position correct. It only means you have an opinion and I have an opinion.

At least, I have backed my opinion up with valid arguments on other posts, but your arguments are only opinions without confirmation.

Once again, the purchased ticket guarantees the fan he can boo if he wants to. It is legal and has no law against it, therefore it is the right thing to do if that individual so desires.

If it is legal and right for a person to boo because of his purchased ticket, you are infringing on that person's right if you try to force your actions on him. You, then become the one that is wrong and out of line.

amen BS they just don't get the picture if you wanta boo stay home at throw bricks at the tele.

No one is talking about denying anyone's rights or making booing illegal. All we want, Ahso, is to encourage fans to restrain themselves from booing. If you want to boo someone's child, me, my child, or your own child, you have the supreme right to do it. I just think that real love should work an internal restraint.

I hurt on the inside and was about to bust and wanted to tear something up or even boo when things are not going right for our Jackets, but I have to bite my tongue for the good of the team's image. However, in private, dialogue can become brutally disclosing and open.

Mustard, see I told you. You missed the picture entirely. Your first burst of irrelevant information was booing children.

I had just stated that I, nor most fans "never" have and "never" would boo the athletes. Then you come back like a first grader and talk about booing the children.

Read the post and get it into your mind before you respond. And, as I also stated, any person that has ever played sports in front of fans knows the difference between booing of players and booing of coaches decisions.

I guess under some of the poster's views, when fans are booing the referees, the athletes think they are beeing booed, since they don't know any better under your thinking.

Well.. it all makes sense for me now...

the boos on Saturday were directed at the referees... .. followed by the chants for Bilbo... I guess they wanted Bilbo to referee the game??

Kirbee...I loved your post !! ... thanks for the chuckle...

I personally don't boo...but I do realize that the hiring of Buck was a big BOO-BOO.
Does that count in this debate?

Beeware.. as long as you get a "boo" in there somewhere... it counts.....

I don't boo for one main reason, no one knows what I'm booing about. If I'm mad about a call I yell at the ref. If I'm mad about a coaches decision I yell at the coach. I try not to yell at players but have to admit I do get upset about missed tackles, bad throws, etc. But I don't boo.

To me it only deflates my team and gives the opponent a boost. Just my opinion.
