I think it is a good hire. He has been considered one of the top DC's in the country for a few years now. His name has been rumored for other jobs, and many people have stated that he should be the next minority hired. The players backed this coach and want to play for him. Even though Miami isn't what it use to be, you can not say that there defense has looked bad.
On a side note, these job openings have shown that football is much different today than 20 years ago. TV markets has made the playing field much more level. In the past a certain few schools would get the best players because they were seen and known the best (Miami, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, etc.) These teams still have name recognition, but it is much easier to take a Rutgers, WVU, or even a Wake Forest to a high level bowl game than in the past. Most schools are shown on tv numerous times, weight lifting has significantly changed athletes, and last technology is a large factor. Technology gains in weight lifting and coaching strategies has helped athletes greatly. Now you can buy tapes of techniques and even little league coaches can learn how to teach at least some basic skills. With the money coaches are getting today and a more level playing field, why would you want to leave and go to a school with such large pressures and short leashes?
