If the ACC commish has any degree of character.

Reddick was using his helmet as a weapon and trying to kill people with it.
Another Miami player was trying to stomp repeatedly on a FI players knee from behind as the player lay face down on the ground.
Multiple other Miami players kicking guys who were laying on the ground.

This was a common gang fight that showed that these are not student-athletes...just street gang thugs.

If I am a Miami alum...I am suspending all donations until Coker is fired and all Miami players involved lose their scholarships.

The ACC should do the following:
1) Suspend Miami from participating in a bowl this year.
2) Suspend all Miami players that left the bench for the Duke game
3) Suspend any Miami players that used their helmet as a weapon or kicked other players that were on the ground for the remainder of the season
4) Suspend any Miami player that threw punches for 3 games.

Hit the nail right on the head. As I said in my thread I started about scUM, they are a bunch gangster thugs who don't belong on a football field.

Hiveredtech, you are too lenient on them they should be put on automatic probation and forfeit all the rest of their games.

I think those should be minimum penalties. If they were to suspend every player that left the bench for the Duke game they would probably have to forfeit because it looked to me from the highlight that the bench totally cleared. I don't know what they should do, but I'd lay the hammer down. Coker has got to go...as well as some of these players. The kid who was using his helmet as a weapon should be kicked out of the universtiy and sent back to the streets from which he came. That is unacceptable.

5 players were kicked out of the game...we'll see what happens after tonight. They are truly an embarrassment to the ACC.:angryfire:

Of course my penalties were from the ACC. Miami's should punish many with revoking their scholarship...I do not think the ACC can do that.

I really wonder what it takes to file assault charges on football players. Like Albert Haynesworth stomping on the Cowboy's center's face.

Wasn't there a hockey player a few years back charged with assault with a deadly weapon after nailing a guy with his stick?

Agree 100%. Charges definitely need to be filed for the player who was using his helmet as a weapon and the player who was stomping on the FIU players on the ground.

A shameful day for the ACC, we should expell scUM from the conference, because you know something like this will happen again.

That Miami fight was nuts, but I went to a 1-AA game today that featured a post-game brawl started by a head coach. The guy that started it ended up getting hit in the face and he spent most of the fight on the ground. Never seen anything like it.

Players who were kicked out of the game will be suspended for one more by rule I think. The league will probably review the film to make final determinations on any suspensions, etc.

But kick them out of the league? Forfeit the rest of their games? So why didn't we kick Clemson out of the league after their brawl with USC a couple of years back? The school and the league do need to take serious action but let's not go overboard here. Oh, and FIU should face similar sanctions from their league.

scUM represents the ACC, FIU represents the SunBelt, scUM needs to represent the ACC with class and not retaliate like that. Obviously scUM representing the ACC with class is impossible which demands a major probation and consideration of the forfeit of their games.

To do something like that would mean there would have to be ACC bylaws that provide that kind of sanction. I just don't think they exist.

Yeah, some of these penalties are overly severe, even given events which are embarassing, but I don't think that not playing in a bowl game would be out of the question, though I doubt it happens. Probabably going to see a lot of 1 game suspensions, and a few more for our game too, like mr helmet swinger... which to me just screams bad idea since then you're pretty open to get knocked hard if some other idiot gets the same idea. I think this definitely sealed the deal on Cokers time at UM.

The other thing this situation says to me is we should be very careful about recruiting any players from South Fla and Miami in particular.

I would not say that....it goes to the character and background of the kids you put together.

Atlanta thugs could do just fine in a street fight with Miami thugs....and lets throw Chicago and LA in for good measure. Heck...New Orleans would probably kick everyones butt!!! :laugher:

As long as you are taking good kids that want to get a degree...and you are consistent in your discipline....you may have fights here and there or an occasional off-field incident....but you are not going to have all out melee's like we witnessed tonight.

To me, the fight after the Peach Bowl last year, then the stomping of the Louisville logo and finally the brawl today has shown me a program out of control. In the end, Coker is responsible for these discipline problems as well as the results on the field and the Miami AA should ask him to resign this week.

Also, while I wouldn't go as far as hiveredtech with penalties, I would however suspend a few players for multiple games, perhaps even for the remainder of the season. These included helmet-swinger #26, as well as three players who stomped on an FIU player on the ground, #12, #19 and #51. The ACC office, the sunbelt office, and the Miami and FIU AAs should do an extensive video analysis similar to the Ron Artest fight to find the other players responsible for the worst offenses on both sides.

Well, I guess my comments about players from Miami/Dade are more from the perspective that most of the players on both teams are from that area from all reports. They all seem to have an attitude that led directly to the brawl. I'm sure you can take individuals away from that environment and influence and they can turn out okay, but I'd be very careful.

In all, 13 players were ejected -- eight from FIU, five from Miami.

I think each team should forfeit their next game... they need a cooling off period while officials from both conferences review game tapes and determine who should be penalized what!

Still no timeframe given for suspensions. You get the feeling that would already have been decided if their next two games were Duke and Florida Atlantic instead of Duke and us. They are also probably gauging the court of public opinion and the ACC office to see what they think about length. I would have to think at least Reddick and Merriweather miss some significant time.
