Michigan Politicians Coming AFter It ...

See, this is the kind of thing that happens when the government is involved in anything

It is very much a cliche statement to make concerning situations such as this, but don't these 'state lawmakers' have other issues that they should be concerned with?

Lol, I wonder what our beloved Govnuh would do if Ugag was in that situation

You're talking about millions of dollars lost just because the powers that be wanted it that way. They should. If we were on the other end of that, we'd be upset too. This whole system needs some better checks and balances or programs are going to get screwed out of a lot of money.

How much did that loss to Wake cost Tech?

Virtually nothing except more $ for travel expenses.

Yes, the whole BCS thing sucks and is stupid, but a playoff system isn't the answer. Let the bowls invite who they want, if it happens to be 1 and 2 in the polls, great, if not BFD, its a game. The bowls used to be a wonderful piece of what made college football great, now its just the same crap as every other game that money has taken over.

Michigan had their opportunity against Ohio State and lost, so off to the Rose bowl you go (which was a pretty decent payout last time I checked).

I have no problem with the SEC champion getting a shot in the BCS title game over the runner-up in the Big Ten.

I just think it's funny that it only matters to those slighted. Would the Michigan politicians be arguing for a playoff if they were picked to play in the big game?

You can't have it both ways guys. Pick a stance and stay with it. Have an opinion because you believe it, not because it helps/hurts you or your team (at the moment).

How big of a money loss was it for Michigan? I searched for bcs bowl payouts and got this article:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2006-12-06-bowl-payouts_x.htm

The Big Ten will divide $34.4 million and, after all expenses are taken out, each of the 11 schools will receive about $2 million. It will cost the conference about $10.95 million for the seven Big Ten teams to travel to their bowl destinations.

So both Michigan and Ohio State are just getting 2 million dollars. How the hell could Michigan be losing out on 10 million when Ohio State is only getting 2 million dollars?

It's not costing Michigan or the Big Ten a penny. You can have at most 2 teams in the BCS: the first one earns $17M and the second earns $4.5M by rule. Michigan makes the same money whether they are in the championship game or the Rose Bowl.

My conclusion: these legislators are dumb as dirt.
