Ajc tonight. If someone can link.

Brian Billick, Baltimore Ravens head coach highly endorses Rick Neuheisel for GT. He says among other things that " Rick has infectious enthusiasm and natural charisma that was made for the college game and that GT should hire RN"

Sounds like the type of candidate that Clough and Drad outlined they wanted.

Looks to me like a guy that I would bet would compete very well against our competition including Uga, Richt and co. and would meet another criteria Drad and Clough wants, in beating our arch rival on a regular basis, and a top tiered coach that would bring a lot of excitement and enthusiasm to our program and meeting the most important criteria, putting fans in the seats.

Yeah it's great when your employer endorses you for another job, he must not want to part with him...

Billick made the following quote when he promoted Neuheisel last last January:

"Rick and I were able to communicate very readily with one another. It's a great working relationship," Billick said. "He deserves that mantle, and I have no doubt it can be a platform for Rick at some point to be a head coach again at some point."

Don't forget O'leary promoted the Fridge for several jobs. That is part of being professional. Every coach wants people that want to be head coaches or something like that.:fingersx:

If Baltimore doesn't want him shouldn't this send us a message?

Yeah I have my doubts about RN. It seems at one moment he's percieved as the right guy for the job and then the next you get this stuff about Billick "recomending" him (i.e. asking him to leave from the ravens in a polite way) for the GT job. I just don't know what to conclude in RN's case.

My thing about RN is that whether the negativity is substantial or simply percieved - it's still there. My personal preference is that someone totally fresh that hasn't been seen on Sportscenter countless times with his face above the word "Scandal?"

Maybe he's a great guy - that hasn't gotten us far in the last six years.

I trust that DRad will be rather thorough about this, so with all the murmurs about Rick, combined with the fact that unless I'm mistaken the only interest shown for Tech-RN was on the behalf of Rick.

I'm not a fan of the idea of Slick Rick coming here. But folks, come on. The article plainly states that Billick's comments came in "an email response to the AJC." His recommendation of Neuheisel was not unprompted. It's not like he was at his weekly press conference and said "Hey, any of you guys know Mike Knobler, AJC? I hear they need a coach down there, got a guy for them!"

My thoughts exactly Thomaston. Billick can't seem to get him out of Baltimore fast enough.
You guys are crazy. Coaches help their assistants move up. That's the way the coaching profession works. RN may not be a good fit for Tech, but this is just dumb logic.

Would you have expected Billick to bad-mouth Neuheisel if he wanted Rick to stay as his OC? That wouldn't happen. Heck, would you want to go work for someone if you thought they would try to block your opportunities for advancement?

And if Billick had said something like "oh no, please don't hire him, I need Rick!" then you all would just say it was reverse psychology.

And I'll say as an addendum, I'm not a Rick fan, but let's be reasonable in our analysis.

Good Grief. RN is not my top candidate. In fact I would have serious reservations if he were hired. However, to indicate that his head coaches endorsement is somehow a negative is beyond silly.

If he is not performing then they would just fire his ass. It's he NFL....
