I have been the receipent of some major back surgery recently that has involved large amounts of consciousness altering. What didn't hurt now hurts, what did hurt cannot be felt, experts have been exposed, long periods of bourbon deprivation brought clarity, there are compounds that focus the inner eye more sharply than Sauron can imagine. This past Saturday, college football passed in front of this heightened awareness to reveal its truths

1. The ACC is almost certain to slide back into the circle of suck that defined it for a half dozen years. Clemson may have some slight advantage, but a fumble fest or an Iowa State would pull them right back into the muck. Clemsoning isn't purged from the DNA so easily.

2. The SEC is already in the circle of suck. uga has stared at its own reflection in the urinal long enough to convince themselves they're beautiful compared to the other monsters. Would you trade teams with UF, LSU, UT? Me neither. What gets them out of the hole? Doesn't it give you a warm feeling knowing that Kirby Smart's last thought when he turns out the light at night is that he has to take on CPJ 7 days before the SECCG?

3. The Coastal is ours to lose. We are very close to looking at 9 win seasons as disappointments given the current state of the ACC.

4. There is one last hill that has to be climbed for Tech to be what we have dreamed of. Beat an undefeated #1 or #2 uga team in Atlanta costing them the NC. That breaks a lot of chains. They may come to BDS with that ranking this year, but not because they deserve it.

clemson looks like they've graduated from the suck circle and reload rather than rebuild. Dont let that 28-14 score with WF deceive you. WF was never in the game and scored in garbage time late in the 4th quarter after Clemson took a 28-0 lead and was already putting in the subs. FSU is an interesting case. They are supremely talented at every position except for the OL, for which they've made mistakes in both recruiting and coaching. They are one good OL coach and a couple of classes away from getting to Bama level. They are Bama everywhere else, except for QB where they are above average when their starter is in there. Blackman is actually talented too, but true freshman are very up and down at that position. UofL is about to seriously tank. VT is pretty danged good and they have a very good coach. Dont write them off. UVA has a good coach and is building. They actually dont look bad at all this year. UM has a great coach and a top 5 class coming in so I dont see them falling into the circle of suck after this year. This year, though, they are about to hit reality. GT will run circles around them. Which brings me to us. GT is to the point where the system is bigger than the players so it really is plug and play every year. Our ceiling will always be defined by defense and turnovers. We can actually win the danged ACC once every 4-5 years, and that is saying a lot given the competition level.

FSU has been very slack in OL recruiting the last couple of years and it has caught up to them. Hard.
Va Tech is better than I thought it would be with a new starter at QB. Uva seems to be extricating themselves out of the s hole they have been in the last few years even with their good recruiting. Still, if we can hang on to the football and at least break even in the turnover battle, I like our chances against anybody.

We are good enough to beat anyone. Stop making mistakes and we won't lose again.

Miami is +7 in turnovers over the last two meetings. One would think we were due for a clean game vs them.

If you start with the premise that Clemson is at the top, then it is not very high. How many has Clemson won by a TD or less in the last 14 months? Teams put together strings like that, and then they end. FSU may be loaded with talent but that just proves my premise since they only have one win and are staring into the abyss. Think we have anything to fear from Pitt, UNC, UVA, or Duke in the next couple of years other than our own brain farts? All inhabit the circle of suck. We take VT in ATL this year and that will be three of four with the one loss being a mega brain fart in a 3-9 year for us. The next ascendant team in the Coastal will be decided this week in Miami. I see no specific reason it should be Miami.

This is the moment when CPJ can make the Coastal, the ACC, and the state his own for several years.

The one problem is we have to play Clemson every year and Venables seems to have the formula to shut us down, which is have NFL players at every level on defense that destroy our OL at every 1-on-1 matchup. Watching Clemson's young D this year, I don't really see much chance to beat them. UGA looks a lot like Clemson on D too, which is pretty concerning.
