Click at your own risk, of course...

but while debating whether Alabama has the nation's best rushing attack (wut?), Greg McElroy sensibly points out that's ridiculous because triple option teams like Tech are gonna have the best rushing offenses.

Absurd they'd even be having this conversation, obvs.

I guess it depends on whether you define "best" as most yards or prefer some more subjective measure of "effectiveness".

That's a fair point... Miami leads the country in yds/rush (9.52), Alabama is fourth (6.52), Navy is seventh (6.14) and we're fifteenth (5.85). In total rushing yds/game, we're #1 (393.67) — but Alabama is an impressive fourth (303.25) and Miami is eleventh (285.5). Guess they're pretty good too.

I think best rushing offense would be the one that gained the most yards per play if you ran it every play. Some of those teams' yds/rush would likely be lower if they ran every play (i.e., if run vs. pass were predictable). So it seems impossible to compare except when you compare versus other offenses that rarely pass. I would say Navy's rushing offense is better based on those stats.

I think it would be more comparable if you counted all of our pitches (except the rocket) as passes.

Our dive is killing it this year.

Does he still have a job after that statement?

Miami is gaining almost 10 yds per rush, while still rushing almost 30x / game. That's pretty dang impressive. They are second in YPP, just behind Oklahoma. Maybe they'll finally live up to the hype this year.
