Monday\'s Menu = Crow

Well,
After Saturday's performance a little crow is on my menu.
Billy O'Brian called a good game IMHO. Suggs looked sharp. There seems to be a few reasons for this. First, The offensive line game him enough time to read the secondary. Second, The coaching staff put AJ in good situations. The spread offense must be better suit AJ's vision of the field. Having Clink be able to run well out of the spread didn't hurt either. Third, The receivers did a good job catching the ball. Only on dropped ball sticks out in my mind. I wish we would not have been so conservative in the 2nd half but over all I think the game was well called.
On Defense I thought we did well. I think the defensive play calling was good. I was frustrated with the short passes but I understand what Tenuta was doing. We were giving the short pass in return for taking away the long pass. Doing this we were waiting on Shraub (sp?) to make a mistake. He made a few mistakes that we could have converted into INTs but did not.
Most of all I am pleased with the team's intensity. I thought they had more fire than I have seen in a while. This gives me more confidence in the coaching staff. I will not be sold or lost until after recruiting but I do feel better.

Good post PM. I might take a little bite of crow with you. I was so glad to get the W. Maybe things are starting to come together now. I agree with you, we are going to need a nice recruiting class this year. Ugag is moping up as usual.
Price Memorial Gold. Have anything to do with North Georgia College? I have a degree from Tech and another one from North Georgia.

I also feel alot better. That was the best coaching job we've had all year. I'm a little disappointed with how we went into a shell offensively in the 2nd half, but with the 23-0 lead, we could afford to do that.

The main thing a coaching staff can do is to prepare the team during the week and demand 60 minutes of intensity. If you can get your players to play hard for 60 minutes, you'll win more than you lose. That's the main difference between UGA under Richt and UGA under Donnan. I think that's what we need to win as a program.

A win is a win. It was ugly in that 2nd half. But I'll take it and be happy. UVA is a rival of ours and it feels good to stomp them in our house again.

Obviously, we will not be favored in 3 of our last 4 games. Most, if not all, of us have altered our expectations for the year. It would not surprise me if we went 6-6. I won't be happy if that happens, but I can live with it as long as I know that our team is laying it on the line for 60 minutes. Efforts like the Maryland game are not acceptable. Efforts like the UVa game are what I'm looking for.

NC State might kick the crap out of us. But if we play smart and don't shoot ourselves in the foot with stupid turnovers...AND if we play hard for 60 minutes, we can make them earn every inch of any victory they get.

Who knows? Maybe we can upset them.

Hey Fat Jacket,

My handle does stand for Price Memorial at scenic North Georgia College. When were you at NGC? I was there from 90 thru 94. I loved every minute of it. But I am a sick induvidual.

Re: Monday\'s Menu = Crow

I feel much better about the team. The spread gave AJ time to look off to his 2nd and third receivers, plus opened up the middle for the run. The OL did a great job all day! Congrats to PJ and Gordo stepping up to the plate and totin' the mail so well!

I knew things were gonna be different when on our first play from scrimmage, Dorsey was lined up just itchin' to hit someone - well he took out TWO defenders on the play leaving the corner wide open for Clink's big yardage. The offensive game plan was much improved! Wonder if we saw Chan's hand more than in the past?

The defense also did a great job. Obviously the plan was to put pressure on the QB by bringing the LBs - that left the short pass open 'cause the CB's had to play loose to prevent the big play, and that's what they did. Yeah, all those short passes made me nervous, but the plan worked. UVA tried to negate the rush by those short passes, but cudos to the CBs and Meyers for pretty much nailin' em where they were caught.

That's not to say everything was perfect - there was a lot of stuff I saw that still needs to be worked on, but I saw a tremendous coaching job and tremendous effort on the part of the players. I believe we have been caught in a not uncommon confusion by the coaching change, which has been greatly exacerbated by an incredible number of injuries we've had. For UVA the coaches put together an excellent game plan and the players executed it well. We've got a big challenge next week and while I feel much better about the team, there's still a long way to go. However - I really feel we have a legitmate shot to go 7-5 - not bad in a coaching transition OR with the amount of injuries we've had, not to mention a combination of the two.

I graduated from NGC in 1989. I was already working and finished my accounting degree after hours. I have a place in my heart for NGC. It is truly a good college. Go Jackets!
