In this well done srticle from Florida Today, they quote most major SEC HCs talking about playing many more Fr than ever before. There will be more injuries, major & minor, that have to be replaced for part of a game or part of a season.
There's also the concern with 'cramming' the 12th gm into the season as is, instead of allowing an xtra week to still work in open dates. The question also comes up about make-up games in case of hurricanes, etc.
It looks like the Freshmen that are in shape to play this season will get an early crack at playing time on the field. The HCs sure want them to be ready. Inevitably, this will lead to more pressure on the Frosh, & other rFr, to get ready during Summer's 'voluntary workouts'.

More Fr to play this season?

Of course, this Florida based article, with input from Tubberville at Auburn and Meyer at Florida, makes no mention of the academic impact with freshman potentially not being able to redshirt (thus acclimate to the academic environment) and losing an open date for all players.

This is exactly what CG means when he says the NCAA has to decide if it is professional or amateur because it speaks out of both sides of its mouth. It increases academic expectations, but adds more games...plays more games on non-traditional days of the week...etc etc.

This is the same flail we went through in 1970...

when the 11th game was added. By '72, freshmen were eligible.

Everyone will adjust & in 2044 high schoolers will be eligible!

of course, there were no academic requirements for progressing towards a degree at that time, as there are now.
