Mover's archenemy

I was at that game in '84 sitting in the old North stands. More like bleachers with little stairs from the ground on either side that were the only access. The visitors came out from the endzone on the West side. I remember going down those stairs and standing right next (I'm talking earhole close) to the Clemson players coming back out after halftime as they waited for the call to hit the field. Perry was standing right next to me not three feet away. I was surprised at his size. I'd seen really big people before but the Fridge was maybe 6'0 tall. Me being 6'3" I was sort of taken aback because I expected a giant. Of course he was aprrox. 4 times bigger than me but I'm just saying.

Hope he licks his ailment. Does sounds like it could be weight related though.

John,

I'm curious, what was it like playing against Perry? Was he arrogant, an asshole, or was he a good guy, fun to play against? Did y'all enjoy competing against each other as two of the best in the trenches?

I was at that game in '84 as well, FWIW.

In college he was pretty arrogant at the beginning of the game, of course as time went on that subsided quite a bit. He also weighed in about 400 lbs. as well, he was a freakin' load to handle. IMO Michael Dean was much better. I hated the battles against him when he played in Cleveland.

In the pros I don't really remember, I played against him once or twice in 93 or 94 in Philly. He lost weight and was still quick as ever but only played 1st and maybe 2nd down. If he talked smack I don't remember it. All I cared about was getting all the oxygen I could between plays LOL.
