But not by ESPN!

'The Clint Castleberry Story' How I would love to see a movie on the Tech great's life! A little fella, strong and fast who lead his high school team 'Boys High' to three state championships, matchups and victories all over the South, and to play in the Orange Bowl.

On to Tech, where as a freshman in '42 he leads Tech to a 9-1 season and a trip to the Cotton Bowl....including a 13-6 victory over Notre Dame in South Bend. Tech's first win on the Irish's home field. He goes from nowhere to one of the most visible 18 year olds in the nation as he wins ALL-AMERICAN honors and places 3rd in the Heisman Trophy balloting.

Joins the Army Air Corp, goes through pre-flight school and earns his wings as a pilot....and assumes command of a B-26 Marauder 'Dream Girl'. Only to be killed in action and.... his plane's wreckage or his body was never to be found.

Glory and heartbreak....and I can only imagine what lays in between for a researcher and screenwriter to discover. Castleberry's number 19 is still....and likely always will be....the only number Tech will ever retire.

Here is a story I found on Castleberry, Boys High, and interesting enough...Charlie Trippi...a Georgia Bulldog many still consider the greatest of all the Dawgs, including Hershel Walker.

And a salute to Chub Jenkins....he must have been a helluva guy.

The only way that would happen is if Calvin went and did something crazy like say...Win the Heisman.

It's Possible.

How about a feature titled "Reggie"? One of the enduring memories of the film would be fans chanting his name in unison. It would sound similar to "Ru-Dee".

Filming begins Sept. 02.

Sorry guys, but all of you are off base on this one. Castleberry led his high school team to a Nat'l Championship and played in the Orange Bowl as a high schooler. Castleberry led the Jackets to a 9-0 start and #1 Nat'l ranking before losing to Georgia.....(Trippi and Heisman winner Sinkwich). Castleberry finished 3rd in the Heisman voting. Castleberry then went off to war and disappeared forever.

Reggie, Calvin, and just about anyone else you can think of for Tech, Georgia, the SEC, the ACC....do not belong in the same conversation. To do so mocks what #19 did and what he stood for.

Who does you may ask? Nile Kinnick, Tom Harmon, Ernie Davis, Roger Staubach....among a select few. If you don't know who these fellas are....well, you're missing out on a huge part of what makes college football and this nation great.

You have no argument from me about Castleberry. To say his early demise is a shame is a gross understatement!
