My 00.02 Cents from what I saw

From what I saw in the West stands on that cold Saturday down on the Flats:

1. (WR) I feel much better about our wr, Bay-Bay Thomas looks like a stud. He made several nice catches in traffic. Earls, I was unsure of but looks like he is ready to play. Would like to have seen Greg Smith, guess he was banged up.

2. (CB) What in the world, they are terrible! They were in position numerous times to make plays and the wr's simply took it away (Granted Earls make a great catch on the first play, but Reeces was right there). Looks like the Gator Bowl all over again, we are going to miss ole Kenny Scott. I had high hopes for #24 but he didn't show me anything Saturday. I even heard Tenuta scream, "Poppy, get out here!!" Guess he was too busy talking to notice he was suppost to be playing.

3. (RB) Looked great, Tashard looks ready for a big year, Grant is also looking great. Evans, gives a nice option and is quick as a cat. Big surpise was the fb Kelley, don't remember who he ran over but took a handoff and plowed a defender and got a first down.

4. (Qb) Bennett has good poises and can read a defense, very impressed. Threet, make some very nice throws, should be a good one. Booker, wow, this kid is a freakin load. If nothing else we should do what Florida does with Tebo with him.

5. Defense- liked what I saw from the first team (except the cb's), the second team needs to step up.

Overall, if we don't beat ourselves (turnovers and penalty's) we could easily be back in Jacksonville after whipping the mutts.

Again, my humble 00.02 cents. Go Jackets!!!!! Go Tech, Beat Nutre Lame!!!

We need cornerbacks to play well this year, or it'll be a long season.

Many of the plays our WR's beat the CB's (including the one you referenced above) was against our 2nd string CB's. Also, Djay Jones was out, and Jahi Word-Daniels, and they should help fill that gap.

however, I agree that CB's are our biggest concern.

The corners have me concerned as well, but we were missing some starters in the scrimmage at both DB and on the front seven (don't forget that a lot of our ability to disrupt the passing game comes from QB pressure.)

I'll be a little more concerned come Fall practice if we're still seeing the same problems of guys lined up incorrectly and missing their help assignments. I saw a lot of these same problems last spring game and while DB play was by no means outstanding last season it didn't look as it did in the Spring game either.

Thanks for the info Crazy, this is the first spring I have not been able to get down to practice.

Very impressed with all the OL comments, as someone said earlier this might be the most depth we have had there in 30+ years.

And it's good to see something from you JD. Beginning to wonder if you and your brother may have gone back in to the woods around Elijay to hibernate. :::)))

It sounds like Roberson may drift back to CB again. We have some real studs coming in at safety, so I still think they'll play Lewis/Gaston/freshman and work to correct CB.

This seems to be a poor spot for our defense for a number of years.During the GOL years we could sack the qb,stop the run with lbs but coul;dnt stop the third and twenty .Hope somebody steps up soon.

Avery was only playing safety this spring because Djay was out. When Djay returns in the fall he'll most likely return to cb.

Nope, I'm around enjoying the varying opinions from our sports fans on past and present players.

On the road 3 to 4 days a week keeps me busy these days but not complaining.

Really we probably can't have it both ways-we can't have a good looking passing attack AND good pass defense.I'm sure that the DBs played poorly but for a change our WRs,QB,etc ALSO made them look bad.How many 5 for 13 on passes did we see in previous yrs scrimmages? TB is just more accurate than RB,duh! Whether that turns into victories may be a another story.

Good news on the line is always good news for the team. I remember years ago some announcer in a game declared that the old tired adages were true. (Paraphrased since my memory is not that good.) Despite all the nifty offenses and trick defenses, it is still a game of "blocking and tackling." He went on to say that most of the time the team that wins the line of scrimmage wins the game. We all pay attention to the exploits of the backfield and receivers and flashy cornerbacks. But if you just watch the line and see which way it moves, you can often tell how the game is going.

So....is it August yet?!!!

If they're not going to show college baseball on TV, they need to extend the football and basketball seasons - 6 months each should do the trick.
