I think your selection of UVA over GT is weak as hell. GT would have brought more fans than UVA despite the fact that our AD only guaranteed 12000. A 6-5(3-5) ACC team over a 7-4(5-3) ACC team?? Give me a break.
This was a business decision that is terrible on a few levels.
1.) Marketing a team like UVA will be harder than marketing GT.
2.) You're bowl game will lose a lot of viewers on TV because you aren't providing the BEST matchup possible. .
3.) Atlanta would have sent busloads of fans over Charlottesville. Did you even consider that?
4.) You are in the South and a team like GT would have been a better local draw than UVA.
5.) From a purely ethical standpoint it is terrible. You looked for the team you wanted, not the team that deserved it more.

Now I'll make sure the next time I'm visiting Nashville that I piss on it. If you worked for me, I'd fire you for being stupid. One thing is for sure, if we EVER get a bowl invite from the Music City again, I hope GT throws it back in your face.

Let him hear it.

sorry, but that is lame.

truth is this...we're not exciting to watch. We lost the Ugag game ending on yet, another low note. Looking at the past five years, we have not travelled well at all. We're not elite any longer as in a team with a non-checkered past. We are an average, middle of the road team. Yes, we a have a star on our team, but who wants to watch the hype of someone who rarely gets touches? Sorry, but that is the truth. If you want to blame anyone for not getting a better bowl, blame our coach for not winning more games with a talented team.

Hey, I can vent can't I?

UVa outbid us. They offered to buy more tickets than we did. Ramsey would be a fool to turn down the money. Don't send bad grammar and insults to the Music City Bowl - we may want an invitation there some time in the next 4 years on the new contract.

absolutely. I agree with your words..but think it will just fall on deaf ears.

That's crap - we have an exciting team to watch. ESPN and ABC think so and made the decision to show us play multiple times this year. Our game against Miami, for instance, was in the top 10 cable shows for that week.

More crap - we played 4 top ten teams and went 2-2 against them. We finished tied for 3rd-best record in our conference. We are rated in the top 25. All of these are performances worthy of better than the 8th-place ACC bowl.

This is about bowl committee biases, teams buying their way into bowls, and lousy ACC bowl contracts.

right. That is why we're going to gay land to play in front of a bunch of empty seats in a baseball stadium bc we're so popular.

Every year we finish middle of the pack. Every year we seem to lose our last game. Every year we have Gailey and can expect more of the same, imo. Every year I get my hopes up for GT only to be disappointed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/werd.gif

boo hoo. shut up and stop hijacking my thread.

Well I can assure that a 7-4 season isn't a stellar performance. Unitl something is done at the coaching level, IMO we'll continue to make bowl appearances in Boise, Id and San Fran.! We've given CCG plenty of time to turn this program around. Now we've got 5 more years of this! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleep.gif

You seem to have missed something. 7-4 (5-3) is not STELLAR, but it is BETTER than 6-5 (3-5), 6-5 (3-5), and 7-4 (4-4). Those are the records of the teams that beat us out for better bowls. Are they STELLAR? Do they need new coaches?

hey, if you're happy with the way things are..then thats great!

I think many of you are missing the point. We went 7-4, which is still better than UVA and NC State. Yet, both of those teams get better bowls than we do. Okay we lost to both teams...that leads me to Clemson, who we beat. Why do they get a better bowl than we do? Why is it that the two most deserving teams past the big 3(F$U, UM, VT) get the worst of the remaining bowls? Something just isn't right with that. If it came down to an issue of who can guarantee more tickets then it's very clear that they should change the format on how bowls can select teams. I would be in favor of bowls being forced to take a certain team due to their standing in conference over a team that they just want to take.

It takes either a very creative or a very deranged mind to get that out of what I wrote.

The whole "outbidding" thing is a CROCK. Why would we put all of our eggs in the Music City basket? We had a legitimate shot at the Peach Bowl. So with a chance at the Peach Bowl, we're going to put all of our effort into landing a weaker bowl against a weaker opponent?

UVA had nothing to lose - of course they're going to make lofty promises that they can't keep. Hell the cost that UVA's AA will incur by buying up the unpurchased (promised) tickets will probably pale in comparison to the cost of moving the team, cheerleaders, and band to a west coast bowl game - so in that sense, I guess they did the smart thing.

First, there are so many idiots on this board. Remember GOL's last year we went to Seattle, to play in another baseball stadium, when I guess we were so much more exciting? Face it, the ACC will always screw us. Did you see Swofford sitting in the DUKE box watching the phantom foul on JJ Reddick? And this time, the conference "let" the MCB decide on a much worse Virginia team and sent us out west.

Second, the Music City Bowl ain't used to the ACC. Braine(less) said we would bring 10-12 thousand fans and UVA's AD probably somehow made the case they'll bring 35000. In a few weeks, the MCB will realize that UVA doesn't travel when they bring 8000 fans. They've only sold about 1500 so far. I just hope Curry next year will be far more adept at this should a similar situation arise.
