My guess on Tenuta

Disregarding all the previously mentioned arguments, I think he's gone and here's why.

He hasn't said he's staying.

I think he already knows, either way. If staying, there's no reason to keep it quiet. On the other hand, if leaving, it makes all the difference in the world for bowl preparations. He'd either have to step down and leave the team in an aweful bind, or continue in lame duck limbo. Just as bad, imho.

So, no harm in keeping mum on new job for all parties concerned. CPJ is waiting till after bowl season, anyway, to complete his staff.

I just hope Giff is the real deal and not just a wannabe deciple of CJT, ala Bill O'Brian/Fridge.

it SOUNDS like it depends on if there is a better offer he leaves if not he stays.

I think if knew for sure he would make it official.

This is my take too. There is still potential for more coaching shuffle - meaning either new DC positions or more HC positions become open. I think he wants to coach the bowl to show potential, and will then listen to all available suitors...

Since we're throwing around baseless speculation anyway...

I think he's being smart. This year's coaching carousel is of biblical proportions. There are new jobs opened, and other jobs taken, everywhere right now. There are openings at DC at big-name schools, and as some of those open jobs get filled, there will be openings for HCs at smaller programs. Who knows what offer might come Jon's way before all is said and done? Having no relationship with our new HC, why not wait a little while and see what falls out? He's under contract already, so what does he have to lose?

I agree. We won't know anything until all the offers are in, or until PJ decides not to wait and names someone else, which I seriously doubt will happen before the bowl game.

Maybe true, but how does this affect PJ's recruiting in the meantime? I don't know the recruiting timetable but I understand that there is a dead period coming up soon but how long does that last?

I like JT's style and overall results but the big plays really seem to hurt us and I am not always happy with gametime adjustments but what do I know? I do think that he has kept us in more games than not over the CG era.

With such a short time til the dead period, I doubt it will effect it that much. I could be wrong though, I'm just some internet nerd speculating on his lunch break.

Tenuta hasn't said he wants to stay here. PJ may want to keep him or may not - hasn't said definatively one way or the other. The longer this takes- the higher the likelihood he is going somewhere else.

The important thing to keep in mind is that PJ probably has a very good idea who is going to be on his staff. He strikes me as someone who knows exactly what he is doing and doesn't get surprised easily. He'll hire the best staff - probably will take until after the bowl game.

Remember that Tenuta is under contract for another year so if we let him go we will owe him the rest of his contract. Even if PJ did not want Tenuta, I don't think he could come out and say so because they don't want to pay $400k for Tenuta to not be our DC. Basically Tenuta has all the leverage here, he can wait until he has all the offers and make a decision. I don't think other schools are more concerned with recruiting right now than hiring coaches. After the dead period begins, I think schools will become more focused on filling the assistant coach positions. I think that we will know what Tenuta is doing sometime between the beginning of the dead period and just after the bowl game. I agree the longer we go without an announcement that he's staying the more it seems he is leaving.

Minor correction...Tenuta's contract runs through the end of June 2008 and Tech will owe him $212,500 if he's let go.

I brought that up a few days ago and someone in theknow (33jacket I think?) pointed out that they believe his contract ends after spring practice.

I'm not sure how that works out, but if 33j is right, his 'multi year deal' isn't as multi as you and I thought.

(edit: thanks wreckless)

PJ has some time to decide on Jon, because PJ's going to be at our practices going into the bowl game, as an observer. (not doing any game planning) This will serve as a really good way for him to get to know how Tenuta does stuff, a well as the rest of the coaches.
