Why do we care? Ok, sure, people are going to say, "Well your team plays in the ACC so all those wins don't mean anything!"

I don't care. Not even a little bit.

We can not control how the other 11 teams play. GT got themselves into this mess, and now must lie in the grave that was dug. No reason to complain about the ineptness of the other teams. I don't even care. Other people can bash the ACC all they want. They have reason to.

Most of the teams SUCK.

Ok.

I'm done.

Rankings and recruiting are why we care. Those both depend so much on perception, and they can both have big impact on your team.

I would agree with this, but then I remember that everybody loved VT and Miami when they were waltzing their way through an excorable Big East.

I think as long as your conference has two Good to decent teams to validate the conference champ, then you it's okay.

ACC doesn't

VT and GT are the best two teams in the conference, and after yesterday - well - that's not much to brag about.

Time to go independent and jump ship on these loser maggots.

I disagree entirely with that statement. Going independent would not be good for GT at any level. We would go back to how things were before joining the ACC with all of our facilities being run down and being a joke as far as athletic performance.

Do a little research on what happened to GT the last time we decided we should go independent?

I'll ruin the punch line. It ends with us begging to join the ACC.

That was kinda of a joke. I don't think independent teams should be allowed.

Well you also need one elite team in the conf who can battle with the other elite teams of the other BCS confs.

Currently the ACC does not have that. GT, VPISU, and F$U (maybe) are in the good-great category until they prove otherwise and take down a upper tier opponent on a national stage.

If we're really worried about conf perception we should convince the SEC to kick out vandy and put us in the SEC east.

VT will prove to be a very good team. UNC, fsu, and the YJs will also make some noise.

I can see where gsu is coming from with this. I despise Clemson, would just as soon they lose every game on their schedule. But at the same time, it's more compelling to defeat an undefeated or one-loss CU team than a .500 one.

VT this week is a great example. With exception to when they play CU or UM, I'd just as soon see VT lose. But, losing to Bama last night will cause VT to slip out of the top ten. They will with all likelihood be back in the top ten when GT faces them in October.

VT beats Bama then they're probably top three when GT faces them. Hence an undefeated GT team then beats the #3 team in the country --where do you think that vaults GT in the polls that following week?

There is a bit of a fine line of looking at it as, "Who cares about the other teams, let's just win ours", and "The better our hated conference opponents are, the better our wins against them will look."

It's unfortunate that we are in the ACC on many levels. However, we are, so it's best to minimize any significance that has in relation to our football program. I have never been one to root for a conference. My only allegiance belongs to Georgia Tech and I only care how we do. Unfortunately the talking heads on the tube, radio and in print have created the view of conference affiliation being significant beyond reality. It's like being in a union, you pay your dues and you hope you get some rewards from that investment. But like most unions, conferences do little to enhance your overall well being. You best take care of yourself and not put too much stock in the other guy.

Go Jackets!

The VT loss popped the bubble - that they can win without an offense - because they have "Beamer Ball" - special teams, defense and luck.

Of course, if they had an offense, "Beamer Ball" would make them a top 10 team.

We can complain about the ACC "bringing us down" all we want but you know what? We haven't won it in a long time. We are just as guilty of the ACC's perception as anyone else.

Win 12, then beat FSU or Clemson a second time in the ACC championship and we will play for the title. The only way we would miss out is if the Big 12, SEC, Big 10 or Pac 10 produce at least 2 undefeated conference champions. If that happens, we will be left out. But, if USC and Florida or Texas and LSU or Ohio State and Notre Dame go undefeated we were going to be left out anyway. Take care of business and we will be fine. How our ACC brethren's play affects the media is as they fill up air time and blog space with talk about conference strength. But, take care of our own business and very good things will happeneven if our conference is weak.

Honestly I could not care less. If skill and fate align and we go undefeated all the way through then you better believe this guy is going to call us 2009 national champions and I don't really give a damn what anyone else says. BCS championship appearance or not.

Miami's dominance in the Big East is the reason why I have no problem with the rest of the conference sucking. I think that we control our own fate. The fact is that if we lose to any of the other teams in the ACC, then we are just as crappy as them.

Although I wish we were in SEC, we aren't. We are "stuck" in ACC.

More importantly, only 1 week of the season is gone. I remember uva losing the first game of the season to Wyoming and turning it around.

What I hate is, during the week of the 1st game of the season, you could go to about half the ACC boards and they are talking BB. Bunch of crap.

We are responsible for us. We can't depend on this conference to build us up or bring us down.

We need to beat ugag at least 50%. Like it or not.
