There are subtle differences in Key and Collins leading this team, not much, but the 2 areas we just can't overcome is lack of true D1 talent and depth.
Offensively: we do not have any perimeter weapons that can stretch a defense vertically. Most defenses are playing zero coverage, stacking the box and have all 11 defenders inside 15 yards of the LOS. Essentially they have less field to defend & more bodies around the ball and the LOS. Our offensive line is still very poor in technique and talent. We don't get off our blocks quickly or smoothly. We don't use our hands as leverage and are to upright in our stances. They are even worse in space when we ask them to pull and trap nor get to the next level of the defense. We simply do not reset the LOS at the point of attack but rather end up being pushed backwards more often than not. We do not have a RB that's a homerun threat. We have grinders and they are serviceable but no one that's explosive.
Defensively: it's the same old, same old. Poor angles, poor tackling fundamentals, poor eye discipline, etc. Our run fits and gap integrity is non existent. It's essentially backyard football on defense. Everyone just improvise on the fly. We can't play man because our DL is not a pressure unit. Our LBs are slow and cannot cover in space. The 2ndary, well, we all know the issues there, lol. With the bodies we have on the DL and front 7 in general, we need to try a oage out of Barry Odom's book at Arkansas and go 3-5-3 & keep things in front of us and react. It cannot be worse than what we are seeing.
Anywho......Just my $0.02 as I sip my beer and watch us look hapless yet again against an average as grits opponent.
Now get off my lawn
