I was shocked reading this article about the Navy win or ND that they cancelled class. I don't blame them but if an SEC school did this most people including myself would be all over them. Don't really know what to think....

Navy's big win

43 years worth of celebrating to make up for. Sounds about right.

I really enjoyed watching that game, and found myself celebrating with them, not because I'm a Navy fan, just because of the moment.

You can bet your life that The Hill would never cancel class at GT because of any victory.

Go read A Civil War by John Feinstein and then reconsider. These guys (students and student-athletes) bust their asses year round (academically, physically, mentally, emotionally...) with very few breaks.

If this happened at an SEC school where the regular students are partying most nights, skipping classes occasionally, and living the stereotypical college lifestyle (I know because I spent 2 years at GT and 3 at UGA - light years apart and GT doesn't have the other demands that the Naval Academy does) - and the student-athletes focus on football first and then maybe academics, they should be given crap for it.

I recognize that this is an extenuating circumstance for the Naval Academy and applaud them for what they're doing.

Ed, Were you in school in Jan 1991? I seem to recall a day off that year, but quite candidly my memory of those days isn't as sharp as it once was...Mike

We were not in school when we won that game...the game was January 1...I graduated March of 1991.

Matter of fact, it seems I remember having a test the Monday after our Final Four weekend in Denver 1990.

My Dad is a ND fan being born and raised in that part of Indiana. But even he started rooting for Navy during the game. It was an outstanding football game.

You kidding? SEC schools cancel class on Friday just to start the tailgating. Pretty regularly.

UGA schedules Fall Break for the Cocktail Party

Not the university as a whole of course --but during my four years at UGA I had a professor or two who did cancel classes on certain Friday's --the UGA/UF weekend being one of them.

I had a couple of classes canceled during the Final Four in San Antonio a few years ago. Of course the school didn't cancel classes but some individual professors did for their class.

The service academy folks deserve it. Their college expectations are far more demanding that any other college in the nation. Then, when the graduate from their 4-year boot camp, they serve their country.

They deserve a day off after beating ND. I bet you their day off wasn't what you think it was either. They just didn't have class, which is 1/10th of their day.

No, now they have the University's fall break on the same week. It isn't just professors cancelling classes anymore. Its school wide.
