We looked bad on O and D at times today, but despite all that, we were a couple of plays from making it interesting until late in the game. Not great, but could have been worse.

Notre Dame is good but overrated, as usual.

Nd was practicing before Clemson. We looked ok in pieces of the game. Need many ol and dl recruits. Simms needs to improve his hand strength or something.

Defense did okay but Ian Book is fairly pedestrian.

The offense’s inability to score against a good defense is very apparent

We battled and the defense did battle hard all day. I llike the look of a few of the young guys.

If Sims figures out the TO thing then the sky is the limit.

Gibbs is the real deal. Even when the other team outclasses GT, he still looks like one of the best players on the field.

We are a flawed team with many holes.

OK . . . Sims does not impress me as a QB, even for a freshman. Sorry. His pocket awareness and field generalship are poor, but those can be fixed with coaching and experience, so that does not really concern me. What concerns me is that his best asset is his feet, not his arm. He has a strong enough arm, but he is not a consistently accurate passer, even when he has time. Occasionally he will make a spectacular throw, but more often than not he is off target. Rarely does accuracy get fixed after high school. I really, REALLY hope I'm wrong, but that is what I'm seeing. I already saw four years of Reggie Ball - I don't need another four.

So far his accuracy looks better than Reggie to me. Not consistent like you said. But way more potential

I agree that he has better accuracy than Reggie. But still . . . not close to good enough IMO.
Def not. But just the way he looks throwing the ball and the natural arm strength. I’m pretty optimistic he can work his way to elite.. you’re right about it being an inherent skill.. but he has a lot of natural tools to work with

The thing is, even when he has time, he doesn't know ahead that he's gonna have time. You may be right, but I think we need to seem him behind a line that isn't going to cause him paranoia to really judge.

Sims has done some really good things. But, his ball control and decision making have been pretty bad at times. I don’t see him as a top three or four conference QB. But, he is certainly not a bottom three either. I don’t think he has the upside of a Hamilton or Shawn Jones. He is more in the Ball and Thomas group. Hopefully he can really improve his accuracy on medium to deep throws, stay focused on ball control, and have a better supporting cast.

ND had a senior and grad student heavy lineup. They were significantly larger and more physical than us. Beating them today would have taken a near miracle.

That said, I just wanted us to be consistent. The hands to the face penalty hurt. The stupid substitution penalty where we waited until ND was coming up to get set and we run a player on the field and couldn't get the player he was replacing off. ND ran plays deliberately. No excuse AT ALL is acceptable for the penalty.

Gibbs played well, including his blocking on pass plays. We could learn lot from ND. Their plays are sharp. Lots of TE passes. 2 TE sets. Big team.

The receiver pulled up on at least one of the misses. The accuracy should improve as he has more time to work with the receivers. He does need to improve on pocket awareness and allowing the receivers to run under the deep passes.
And he cannot lose the ball when going down on his own. Please teach him to slide.

Not sure we will see that kind of O-Line here anytime soon. But they can certainly scheme it up better for mostly short drops and quicker passes and planned rollouts. Wide receiver screens and such. Get the ball out of his hands a lot faster. I think we'll know more by this time next year.
