Does anyone know which conference provided the officials for this game. They were brutal!

Re: SunBelt*

Crazy Crazy Crazy ending!! If that guy had pitched the ball back (even blindly) Michigan would have won that game.

Re: SunBelt*

I had no vested interest in the game but could not help but think Michigan in several instances took the brunt of poor officiating. I thought the ACC was bad but from start to finish, this may have been the worst I've seen. Seemed to me like the Referee had a chip on his shoulder?

Re: SunBelt*

Seemed to me like they were just flat out incompotent and Michigan got the short end of the stick. The refs were having trouble keeping up with the players and such, was just sad.

But, after all is said and done, Michigan really shouldnt have won the game. Their QB looked very scatterbrained the whole night. i don't know if he wasnt getting the play quick enough or what, but seems like they were always getting up lined up with under 10 seconds left on the playclock, scrambling to read D, make adjustments, etc. Minus the officiating, that was a good hard hit game of football, still odd seeing pass happy Nebraska.

Re: SunBelt*

The non-pass interference call was awful. The Michigan player got mugged. I don't think I have ever seen a pass interference so obvious go uncalled.

I have seen a blocking in the back go uncalled that helped decide a game.

The refs were just terrible all night in that game. Heck, the Referee looked like he was 70 years old.

Re: SunBelt*

Does anyone have an explanation as to why the play clock was started 16 seconds after Ne. was stopped on 3rd down at the end of the game?

Lloyd Carr and his coaching staff looked non plussed about it. I was pulling for Ne, but that pissed me off.

Re: SunBelt*

Yea, the announcers even made a comment about how the refs kinda stood there looking at each other and nonchalantly spotted the ball.

One of the announcers also stated that it was the worst officiated game he's ever seen - and that was before the debacle of calls and non calls at the very end. I think he said it after they called the punt catch interference against Nebraska even though the Michigan player was clearly hit after catching the ball.

Kick Catch Interference

After the break, Herbstreit and Tirico were shown reading the NCAA rule book about Kick Catch Interference. Bill Callahan was telling the ref "He caught the ball!" and moving his arms in a catching motion.

Too many times it seems the announcers let the refs slide, but Herbie and Tirico did a good job of pointing out good and bad calls.

Re: Kick Catch Interference

I agree that the officiating was a joke, especially at the expense of B Blue.

However, I am not so sure the catch interference call on the punt in question was a bad call.
What I saw was that the Michigan punt returner had to side step the NE. player. Yes, he made a great catch on the punt but if he didn't move before the ball had gotten to him, he would have gotten nailed early.
I would like to think these officials saw that when they made the call.

By the way, what conference will officiate the Testes Bowl?
