Need a complete revamp on D

Coaching, players, scheme. We can't stop a 3rd and long to save our lives.
 
So long as Roof is still around. Guy is a genius. Anyone who disagrees doesn't know shit about football.



Am I doing this right coit?
 
It is not defensive coaching or scheme.
If you know anything about football, it's easy to see that we are severely deficit in talent and size in our front seven.
The root of the talent problem is that we can't recruit DL and LBs that want to get "chop blocked" everyday in practice. The real problem is the offensive scheme we run and the negative recruiting that goes along with it.
Our DBs are serviceable, but somewhat undersized.
Until we can effectively slow down the run and pressure the QB, our DBs can not be effective.
It starts with the DL.

UNC against other P5 teams:

Yards/play: just over 6.5
Points/possession: Just over 2

Against us today:

Yards/play: 9
Points/possession: Just over 5


Offense had huge plays, moved the ball running and throwing, kept the chains moving yet shit the bed in the red zone.

Defense was a flaming bag of dog shit without a single bright spot.

Zero argument that our D blew. But to even try to defend 3 ööööing points in an entire half of football is asinine.

Our D sucked today. Our O sucked today. Lather rinse repeat.

You're a moron and so is your mom. Our D sucks, Our O sucks. Time for a change. To even begin to defend 3 pts in a half of football means you're a ööööing idiot, and so is your mom.

I'm not gonna bother defending it because it doesn't matter. Scoring 3 or another 17 wouldn't have made a lick of difference so who cares?

In the context of the game, it's not like the O hung the D out to dry or did stupid shit that was constantly putting them on short fields.

CPJ, as the OC, literally had to change his game plan coming out the half to adjust to his defence being damn near historically bad in the first half.

BTW, I was curious and except for a clock-killing drive, the Texas Tech defense had given up 5.07 points per possession against Oklahoma. And Oklahoma has one of the best offenses in the nation (#2 in the nation behind Louisville according to S&P+, #6 according to FEI). UNC is #27 in S&P+ and #54 in FEI.

So yeah, our defense has some issues.

The defense played like a #120 defense today.

Without a really great DC that would get hired away like Charles Kelly, we're not going to have a great defense. But our recruiting is not #120 in the nation bad.

Agree that the S&C coach from Vandy hasn't gotten it done. That is a place the new AD could fix this off season.
 
Did anyone really believe our defense would slow UNC? We had trouble getting Mercer off the field this season. The game pretty much played out exactly the way most of us envisioned it. Hell, I love to claim we are gonna win every game, but I knew yesterday our only shot was our offense pitching a perfect game so we could overcome our extremely weak defense.

I know we aren't Alabama, LSU, or Florida, but I watched the UGA/UF and BAMA/LSU games and I was shocked at just how much more muscle their guys had. I know the lore of Scott Cochran is well known, but I am consistently amazed at the type of athlete he and others can produce in terms of size (assuming skill is inherent or taught by other coaches).

Gary Daniels said something last night I found very interesting:

"Alabama('s defensive line) creates a new line of scrimmage."

I know we aren't often competing for the same caliber of skill as Alabama, but the body is an easy fix. It responds to hard work.
