The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) approved Georgia Tech athletics’ plan to construct a new state-of-the-art student-athlete performance center project on Wednesday. The 115,000-square-foot facility, funded through Athletics Initiative 2020, will be built in the footprint of the current Edge/Rice Center in the northeast corner of Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Georgia Tech athletics’ Student-Athlete Performance Center will house areas that most directly impact student-athlete performance on a day-to-day basis, including strength and conditioning, nutrition, sports medicine, academic support and Tech athletics’ renowned Total Person Program. It will also include new expanded space for Georgia Tech football, featuring a dedicated football-only strength-and-conditioning area, players’ lounge and meeting spaces. The student-athlete performance center will also serve as a campus fixture for fans and passersby, and include premium seating for Georgia Tech football games and other events held inside Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Is this a remodel of the current building or are they tearing it down and building a new one? Is the later they need to put the effort into better integrating the building into the stadium.

It said there would be premium BDS seating included so I'd say it will be pretty integrated.

Given the timeline, I guess we'll have a construction site as part of the stadium in at least '24, if not '23 as well. Should be an awesome payoff at the end, though!

Should be a good selling point for recruiting. Maybe we also need a dedicated NIL Center as well.

I get a feeling that TStan will still be here when this project is completed.

And will have given both Collins and Pastner another round of contract extensions.
...after multiple ACC Championships in both sports!

I'm pretty surprised at the lack of informed responses here. This is no surprise, the designs and artist conceptions for the building have been online for a couple years and throughout the fundraising effort, with links to donate.

Also, this is a capital/facilities expense versus an operational expense. Do people understand the difference?

The original renderings are not the same as what’ @QuadF posted. There are some new things included in the approved concept like a football weight room

No offense to anybody but those illustrations are awful. They aren't just awful - they are seriously awful - the more I study them, the worse they get.

The final product better be better than this nonsense.
What is it that you don't like?
