In-state S/CB Jerrard Tarrant 6'0", 185 lbs. from Carrollton High School has committed! 4.5 40 per scout. Love the in-state snag! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blue.gif

Uh-Oh! A committment from an OL from Cartersville and a committment from Cartersville's sworn enemy Carrollton. I hope those two fellas don't go hurtin' each other next season since they'll be offense and defense.

Yes Sir! A Carrollton Trojan! Lets keep getting these Georgia boys! That is what I have been wanting to see for a long time. Great job.

There is alot of great players from the schools that made up the old '7-AA' region. Carrollton, Cedartown, Cartersville, Calhoun, Adairsville, Pepperell, Darlington, Central Carrollton, Rockmart, and Model. Not to mention the old Rome duo of West and East Rome. One of the very most dominating areas in the entire state for a lot of years. Going back to the 50's in fact. Tech can really help itself out by getting the cream of the crop from these schools.

JJacket: Carrollton High has a lot of sworn enemies. I have seen Dalton take Carrollton's best shot and win.....and with everything on the line! And I have seen the Trojans take the Cats at Gresham Stadium and Harmon Field. A great rivalry.

I saw the link on the Hive for the Carrollton roster.... Check out Michael Kirk, he killed Dalton in the opening game last year after coming in at fullback for the second half.....he started the game and dominated from his linebacker spot. He went on to make honorable mention both AJC and AP at running back. Anyone know if we are looking at him?

Couldn't get players from any better programs than those two (among the others stateline mentioned)

Unfortunately, my Adairsville Tigers have not been too sharp over the last few years. But, Adairsville now has first rate facilities at the new school - perhaps the best up this way, and we are gonna turn this thing around. BTW, I am very excited that Orlando Wilson helped land us the Cabela's. Now some of you Tech folks move into this sea of red.

Congrats to our new recruit.

JJacket: Believe it or not, but out of all them schools I mentioned above, only Calhoun, Cedartown, Adairsville, and Rockmart HAVE NOT claimed a state title since 1971 at one level or another.

I used 1971 because by then all the schools and the athlectics was integrated.

East Rome: '77, '78
Model: '79
West Rome: '82, '83, '84, '85
Central Carrollton: '86, '87
Pepperell: '90
Cartersville: '91, '99
Carrollton: '71, '72, '74 '98
Darlington: '98

JJ,
Back in the late 70's and 80's when our sons were playing at Coosa, we looked forward to going to Carrolton to the games. Right down past the football stadium there was a little BBQ resturant in a strip mall that served all you can eat for a very meager and fair price. BBQ & Brunswick Stew abounded and a lot of us Coosa folk took advantage of it. Don't remember us ever winning a game there, but I do remember the great BBQ.

Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

Sorry, in advance, for going off topic.

For you Carrollton guys, do you remember the kid who was an all-world guard/forward and tailback in 90-91? I remember going to my brother's basketball game at NW Whitfield and this kid put up 40 without breaking sweat. My brother set a school record in rebounds just collecting his junk. He has a tendency to bring that game up alot and we can never remember the kid's name. We always wonder what happened to him. The rumor was he got lost in the UGA JUCO system.

Re: Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

Per this Georgia football historical website click here there was a Jermaine Johnson who was honorable mention at runningback in '91.

GREAT WEBSITE for information on Georgia highschool football.

romegajacket: Your boys went to Coosa?.....it is good to see their football program bouncing back after all these years. State Champs in '69 but they have been known as a basketball school school ever since. I totally forgot about the Eagles. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif

Yes Sir, struggling is a good way to put it. LOL. They went through some Head FB coaches while our boys were there. The oldest son played for 3 different head coaches during his stint, the younger son played under 2 different head coaches. Looks like they may be getting their program back on track now though. At least there is much optimism among the Eagles.

Good to beat out Auburn for him with a Carrollton kid. What is interesting is that he also said Duke and Vandy finished in the top three instead all ahead of Auburn and the other big state schools that were talking to him.

Says architecture could be his major.

Sounds like he has his head on straight.

Re: Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

Thanks for the link. I need to contact someone about an error about my senior year. Our only loss was to Roswell and since they were in our region that loss kept us out of the playoffs.

Re: Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

Does anyone know if Tarrant is on the Carrollton track team. That is a crack bunch.....arguably the state's all time best track program. And it usually has a lot of football players on it.

Re: Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

When I was a senior at Carrollton, Jerrard was a skinny Freshman WR. It seemed like everytime C'ton was blowing a team out and put in the 2nd Stringers he was the target of every pass play(there were very few). He was not on the track team at that time(as far as now I'm not sure) and the biggest knock on him was actually his speed(Probably in the 4.7-4.8s). He then got into Carrollton's weight lifting program and since has grown about 4 inches and gained about 40lbs. Around the end of his sophmore year he seemed to get a lot faster and is a legit 4.5 forty guy. He is built with lean muscle, like an athlete. He isn't a guy I'd expect to come in and contribute immediately, but he has all the tools to be a more than adequate FS and is still improving.

Re: Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

JoeCakeEater: I tried to find out myself if Tarrant is on Carrollton's track team, which does have a website listing their state championships(24!) but the links on the website such as the one for the roster don't work, for whatever reason.

I would love it if Tarrant is on that track team, it would surely benefit him and Tech in the long run. And I hope he can recruit one or two of his teammates like Michael Kirk or Kevin Dix to come to Tech with him.

Re: Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

I think in one of the posts or write ups on Tarrant they mentioned that he was running track for the first time this year.

I looked up Dix and Kirk in Rival's datbase and couldn't find either one. What position do they play?

Re: Carrollton H.S. 90-91 all-world player

atlantapanther: I made a mistake in thinking that both Dix and Kirk are up coming seniors. They was seniors this year. Dix was 1st team all-state linebacker and Kirk was honarable mention running back. Dix is a all star track performer.

I guess I got a little too excited about the idea of getting more guys from Carrollton and Cartersville. Hopefully guys from Rome, Cedartown, and so on are right around the corner.
