In 23 days, our beloved Jackets suit up and play the Utes of Utah in San Francisco, Ca. We get to take our shut down defense and our freshly annointed All American wide receiver and his offense out to the west coast to play last year's top 5 Mountain West team that would love to beat up on a BCS team.

If we forget the words "Emerald Bowl", this is a game to look forward to. I don't mean to insult the fine company that produces its delicious and fattening products, but this game sounds better by itself.

Tech vs. Utah. This is actually a very good and interesting OOC game to look forward to.
And, with my wish of targeted national recruiting, maybe we will catch the high school sophmore eye of the next Ca. QB Heisman winner.

I never wanted nashville anyway.

You have a very unique perspective my friend that we should all take note of and remember.

Little Clausen will QB for us the same day that Satan repents. Errr... start watching basketball folks. It's looking better than we thought.

Number 3 team has to go to the last selection bowl. It was never about not wanting to play UofU.

It is about playing 4 of last 5 out west. It is about, if you don't win or come in second in the acc, it is screw you non nc teams.

swofford just spit right in our face and way too many don't want to do anything about it. And they love GT?

First of all, we don\'t know what is true or false.

Somebody reported that Emerald picked before MCB, although that is hard to believe. And if it comes dowm to bribery, well that's life.

But I don't see how Boise isn't the worst bowl. It could be much worse.

BC was 8 & 3 & they get sent out west....

Last year getting sent to Fl. was a fluke. Under the current
bowl arrangement in the ACC, we are going out west every
year unless we have 9 wins or more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif

But the ACC has signed new bowl arraingements starting next year, so it's no longer the current arraingement. But it remains to be seen if it will benefit GT.

Unless your school is located in nc or ginny.

I wonder when these new bowl arrangements were taken care of. If it was anytime before this week, and even then, I doubt theres any change. We're going to get the short end of the stick, go to Champs ever 3 years and probably out west the other 2 unless the perception of our crappy travelling habits goes away. Cause as far as the Peach goes, we're dead to them, Gator/BCS are never easy, and after that it just goes WAY downhill.

Re: BC was 8 & 3 & they get sent out west....

Articles have been posted, although I can't find them now, that the new bowl tie-ins have language to get bowls to pick the most deserving teams. But I don't know what that specifically means. Maybe the 2 game rule on conference standing? I can't imagine they will let the conference place teams, but anything has to be better than this.

Re: BC was 8 & 3 & they get sent out west....

or located in SC or FLA? This nc mafia mentality it going a bit too far IMO. The real problem is the ACC has too many tie-ins with bowls that are desperate to sell tickets. They can't stand on their own and aren't supported by their communities. The bowl committees will sell their souls to the devil to fill the stadium. We have to either see changes in the rules on who they can pick or we have to market a hell of a lot better than we evidently do if we want any good bowls.

I believe you have nailed it! There has to be a general demand for tickets or this is what you get. Great point!

Just another indicator of way too many "bowl" games.

Here's are some articles that quote Swofford promising to fix the system, including a recent one about BC:

[ QUOTE ]
ACC commissioner John Swofford conceded that the current system is flawed and that the league will look into changes in the selection process. He said that when the current deals between the six bowls and the ACC (Music City and Emerald officially become ACC bowls next year) were hatched six years ago, a lot of flexibility was given to the lower-tier bowls in the selection process. That process will be reviewed in February.

[ QUOTE ]
''We'll need to look at the parameters that are there as to how much freedom a bowl has when it comes time to making a selection,'' Swofford said. ''Right now our bowls have a lot.

''I think we're going to need to as a league, and in partnership with our bowl partners, take a look at the selection process now that we are a two-division league with a championship game and how that may play into (it). Because we're a different league now.''

[ QUOTE ]
The ACC next season starts new four-year contracts with the eight bowls it will send teams to this postseason — the Orange (the Bowl Championship Series) in Miami, the Gator in Jacksonville, the Chick-fil-A Peach in Atlanta, the Champs Sports in Orlando, the Meineke Car Care in Charlotte, the MPC Computers in Boise, the Music City in Nashville and the Emerald in San Francisco.

"It's not necessarily the same order, and it's not necessarily the same contractual agreements," Swofford said, adding the new contracts will swing the balance more in favor of teams with better records than teams with larger fan bases.

Also, here is an article that explains the upgrades to the Champs Sports bowl that will make it more worthy of our #4 team. The payout will be raised to $2M, and the opponent will be #3 or #4 from the Big Ten.

As others have said, the muffler game should be taken off the list unless he means what he says...this time.
