Ricardo Matthews, defensive lineman from Jacksonville, has chosen the Jackets over Maryland and Illinois.

Let me tell you the coaches love this kid. He is a solidly built 6-2, 260 lb. kid with no fat and a great motor. He went unnoticed by many because he played LB in high school and was out of position.

The coaches offered him in the early fall when they thought we had 19 scholarships...softened a bit when we went to 17 and had some trouble with his transcripts...then everything was cleared up and we went for it.

The coaches had to work HARD to get this kid to commit...and get all of the red tape crap done.

Welcome to GT Ricardo!!

It also looks like the Fidge couldn't convince him to be an art major. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pat.gif

That tells you something about the kid righ there. Come to Tech and major in CE or go to MD and major in art. He must either be serious about what he wants to study or he must love what he saw of Tech and the coaching staff.

Where are they projecting him?

I saw this and thought the same thing Houser. With his apparant speed and good hands, I think an experiment at fullback in short yardage situations would be interesting.

Not saying full time FB.

I was thinking FB as well but he seems to be just a rock you could put anywhere. I think CCG is pulling in a lot of these Belicick type of guys that just have football frames and are athletic. I'd say he's pickin up interchangeable pieces that can be used different ways in different situations.

They told him he was being recruited as a DE. However, you really never know with these types of kids whether they stay outside or in...depends on what happens once they hit the training table...and how they work in space once they get on the college field.

As far as FB's go...we have Bray. Also...Robert Hall played FB well in high school.

That is why I like bringing in the jumbo athletes then finding a place to put them.

I just checked Eric Henderson's profile 6'3 265 so 1 inch shorter and 5 pounds lighter. Hopefully, he's got some of the same skills.

His latest interview states that he will probably play at 275 and doesn't think he'll lose his quickness. If he keeps that quickness he wants to play de.

Nice commit! If he plays at 6-2, 275 and doesn't lose any speed, he will be a brick house! I hope he has a serious aggressive streak!
