in recruiting. We will not be able to hold on to this since we have to stop somewhere between 18 and 21....and others will go to 25-28 and can be more aggressive and get more "points".

However....this is shaping up to be the best recruiting class in GT history. Almost every recruit we have is coming in this weekend to be together...with several paying their own way since they already visited. I have never seen anything quite like this.

Thanks for this GREAT NEWS....I am PUMPED about the upcoming recruiting class!!! It's awesome to see them travel just to be around each other.....I hope they can rope in Edwards, Peters, or Burnett.....2 out of the 3 would be AWESOME (if we can't/don't have room for all 3).....Thanks for the update!

Just amazing! It shows that getting the right people in place is THE difference.

Now let's get a qb coach...

hivered you do great job keeping us all up with the recruiting info and I would like say thanks.

I also see that Georgia is #3, again with a few recruits from Hargrave.

Not that it matters, but it's a pet peeve of mine that these recrootin rankings count so many players twice for these factories. Caleb King, for example, is almost certain to be counted twice and add a huge number of points to two different classes.

Yeah the players from the 2006 class finally learned how to read! So they are ready to depart Virginia and go to the Cesspool others call "Athens" and indulge themselves in the rigorous academics at UGAy.

You are giving them too much credit. ;)

lets hope they keep the commitments, stay in schol, and play up to the billing they are getting.

The word on the streets is that the starpower of our class will increase WITHOUT ADDING ANY ADDITIONAL PLAYERS (i.e. film of three presently low-ranked players had become available to Scout, and has really turned some heads).

That's good to hear.

But wait! But wait! Bur wait! Stars don't mean anything, remember. Remember Keith! Remember Hobie! Stars don't mean anything when our recruits don't have many. They mean a lot when our recruits have them.

Yeah it seems people have that opinion here. when our recruits don't have many stars, stars don't mean only thing, but when they have a lot of stars, then stars are valid and important. Although I admit to falling into this line of thought from time to time last year, stars are not the end all, but sometimes they are right on, for examplne CJ was a 4 star and we all know how he's turning out, but Wheeler was a 2 star, and he turned out to be a beast. So my point is that stars are not definitive, but they are a good indication.

I think it would be better to say stars don't always mean anything, but stars sure don't hurt. I agree with you that the ratings are a lot of fluff and opinion, but being able to land what "everyone" agrees are solid athletes sure is nice too.

I'll jump in since I fight that fight from time to time. Stars mean something but they don't mean everything.

#1 - There are many, many more cases similar to a guy like Joe Anoai than there are like Hobie Holiday. Simply because the recruiting services don't have the manpower to review every high school player sufficiently enough to get an accurate rating for all d-1A quality prospects. They merely scratch the surface by reviewing the best players from the "football factory" high schools and occasionally find an outstanding prospect or two from some of the minor high schools.

#2 - Because many of these recruiting experts (Jamie Newberg, for example) are more familiar with talking about football on message boards than they are strapping on the pads and playing between the lines. For that reason, I'll take the coach's word on the quality of a player before I'll take theirs (not just our coaches, look at the offers a guy is quoting)

What was it Bobby Bowden said? Something like, "5 star plyers don't guarantee championships, but not having them guarantees no championships".

Regardless, I think it's good for Tech, just the exposure of it and how we're in the same breath as the Michigans, FSUs, UGags, USCwests of the college football world. Proves something is going right, just got to get that something consistantly on the field.

What a convoluted statement by an old buffoon.
