I look forward to the team making good use of the bye and playing good football down the stretch. These are, in my opinion, four incredibly important games. Some CPJ haters have given Collins a two year pass and counting - I believe they would blame a losing third and fourth season on Paul Johnson, too. But, the final four games of season two in a rebuild should show progress in the way the team plays.

We will play two good, but not great teams in Pitt and Miami, a weak team in Duke, and a decent team in NC State. Run the table and we have a winning season, a major step forward. That is not likely. But going 3-1 is very doable. It gets us to 5-5 in the conference in year two. We would have a lot of momentum moving forward. 2-2 and a 4-7 season is a slight improvement over 3-9 in year one. But, 1-3 or 0-4 and a 3-8 or 2-9 record is likely to have a negative impact on program momentum and recruiting.

I disagree with those who think how we play on the field this year is inconsequential due to the massive challenge of the rebuild. I also disagree with those who are convinced already this staff is not going to get the job done. I think the next four games will tell us a lot about this team and staff. There is a lot to play for in this most unusual season.

3-1 is “very doable”. You mean like your mom? Jk....

But yeah, the two very unwinnable games on the schedule are long gone. CGC has to show some progress. Losing out is not an option. Have to get more recruits and losing out will kill the recruiting momentum.

Why do they matter and to whom do they matter?

In five years nobody will care whether we won 2, 3, or 4 games this year...It's going to take a lot more time than a bye week for Collins to get his players here. Be patient and trust the process.

Getting a couple more wins rather than losing out would aid Collins in getting the players he wants here.

Fans aren't the only ones who want to see signs of progress; recruits trying to make the biggest decision of their lives to date do as well. Much easier to sell a program that has a defined upward trajectory.

You're posting on a GT message board and you ask why does it matter if GT wins football games and who cares anyhow?

With fans like these...

I agree that the next four games will tell us a lot, and they may be a crucial influence on our recruiting and our future. We may be at a crossroads.

In retrospect, the Clemson, BC, ND stretch was tougher than I originally anticipated

Only because BC is slightly better than expected (although they struggled with Syracuse yesterday) and maybe we’re slightly worse than expected. Clemson and ND are about what I would have expected.

People will never, ever understand about the week prior to a big game and a vanilla game plan against an inferior foe. (Bc v syr with n dame on deck). Never. if they did they’d make a living off of the underdog And total (under) covering 68.3 pct of the time.

You have no further to look than ND vs us. They had no interest in anything other than getting out with a W and i chuckle when i read a bunch of putz-boys on this site give us credit for keeping it close. They could have beaten us by 60 if they wanted, but it served no purpose. Pay attention. 68.3. Bank it.

While there may be some merit to your point, to compare ND (top 5) against us (pathetic) to BC (decent) against Syracuse (meh) is silly. Maybe ND was playing vanilla against us to prep for Clemson, but BC isn’t enough better than anybody in the ACC to toy with them, no matter who their next game is against. (And what exactly would they be hiding, given that they have like 6 or 7 games worth of film out there at this point?)

So when should we start caring? Asking for a friend.
