Call it a hunch, but I think that at this point if any conference is going to reach the level of overall play and competition that would allow a team to lose twice and play for the title is the ACC. Only other conference would be SEC, and they aren't in as prime a position to have a top to bottom improvement. (Remember, this is assuming said improvement occurs)

Please put the pipe down and step away from the computer.
Yea, I have no clue what your line of reasoning is here. The ACC is generally regarded as a mediocre conference with a lot of parity. I would go so far as to say that the next two loss MNC winner may actually jump ahead of a one loss ACC team. The SEC, Big 12 and Pac 10 will get lots of love next year. Sadly, the Big 10 probably will as well, although it truly is medicore now. The ACC and the Big East are one or two lousy seasons away from being lumped into the category with the non-BCS conferences. I understand that football is cyclic and right now the ACC is down, but there seems to be a status quo that was set a few years back which dictates the media perceived reality that is ESPN.

No way.

The next 2 loss team in the MNC will be from an overhyped conference who plays no good OOC opponents. Ergo, Big 12 or SEC.

I said it was a hunch and I didn't say it would happen next year. And besides, if you've seen even half of my posts you'd know I don't always think rationally. (I tend to say something stupid 2 out of 10 times)

And just to point out 1 (and only 1) thing. Actually Allen, most analysts said the ACC had overall an up year, though this is probably meant relative to the last year or two, not overall. Make what you will of it.

I think its possible, take FSU for example, say they lost 2 very close games to teams like GT, VT, Clemson that are high ranked teams and ended there season beating a number 1 ranked UF team. Everyone still loves FSU so i think there is a chance they could go in a situation like that.

Things will have to play out like they did for LSU, the 2 loss team that makes it will have to win its conference outright, and have significant poll bias against all of the one loss teams by them not playing in a BCS conference, or by them not gaining at least a share of their conference. A team like Utah this year would beat out the 2 loss team though.

The next 2 loss team to make the MNC champ game will be the next preseason #1/#2 team to lose 2 games in a season where there is only one other 0 or 1 loss team.
See why preseason rankings are important!

I'll say this. There's two realities in play when talking about reality in college football, or sports in general. There's the reality that we, as informed sports fans, know about. I know that the ACC took an unfair amount of bashing during the season. Clemson was a bust, but that was one team. The league overall was better, and performed fairly well in OOC games. Then there's the mythical reality perpetuated by the ESPN media. In this reality, the ACC doesn't even deserve to be in the BCS and the SEC, the Big 12, and the Big 10 are the only conferences that matter, plus USC. Sadly, I've observed that this is what a vast majority of people know. They listen to the Mark May's and the Lou Holtz's and think that what they are saying is what is really going on. These people are the people who are voting in the Harris Poll. They aren't smart, they don't actually know what's going on, they simply participate in the laundry vote. If you were to amend your basic premise of this thread to say that the next two loss team in the MNC will be from the ACC and it will be either FSU or Miami, that I would buy it. Not because I believe either of those schools have a program that is worthy of playing for a wholely mythical national title, but because I believe that the idiots who cast votes think they are. It's depressing, but I can guarantee that you will see articles and discussions on ESPN next year about the only way the ACC can "regain" its stature is by having a successful FSU or Miami. And if you thought the bias was bad this year, then get ready, because now that ESPN has a huge stake in the success of the SEC, we're in for it.

The sad part is that this sums up College Football almost perfectly. The only thing that's missing is ESPN stirring up Utah (or whatever non-BCS school got left out) just enough for them to get pissed, but never claim they deserve to be number one. It happened this year, and it happened in '06.

After the ACC's showing in the bowls this past year, no one is going to bump up a two-loss team over any one-loss team from any BCS conference.

Allen, not sure if you had been following that one thread that turned toward Heather Dinich, but that was my main beef with her. She is suppose to be the one reporting on ACC teams in particular, the one who knows about the conference and the teams and what is really going on. Yet she has said the exact same things in regards to FSU and Miami. I'm not annoyed with her because she said it but because she of all people at ESPN should know better.

After the ACC's showing in the bowls this past year, no one is going to bump up a two-loss team over any one-loss team from any BCS conference.

Yet the Big 10 was 1 of 6 and they are still likely to have as many preseason ranked teams as us and get an at-large bid in a BCS bowl.

Please keep your fractions simplified. You would say something stupid one out of five times.

Perhaps but it makes it easier to describe other things I say. For example, 3 out of 10 things I say are funny. Can't simplify that further.
