It seems as if we are running in circles with the coaching rumor mill we have going on here, so I figured we should talk about the players. I was looking at that depth chart that they had posted on RR.com for the Georgia game and it looks like we are losing only 4 starters on offense and returning only 4 starters on defense.

Of the 4 starters on offense, I know that Deuce has Evans and Dwyer as some good replacements. As for the other 3 we are losing (Cox - FB, Tuminello - C, Rhodes - RG), I don't know much about their backups. Overall I am not too worried about out offense.

On defense we are losing 3 Safeties ... argg ... what are we going to do about that? I know that Morgan Burnett did well in the Georgia game (minus the rookie mistakes), and he is listed as a backup Safety and CB ... but that is only one guy. We are also pretty thin at CB, although we still have Word-Daniels.

The only concern that I have for our team next year is our defensive backfield personnel. It was a weak point for us this year and I can't imagine it being any worse.

I am new to this forum, so hello to all and I look forward to many good posts...

The good thing about our secondary is it couldn't get any worse.

?

Cajun, I'll try to offer a small response to your thread without the lame sarcasm, but it's hard to even think about the depth chart with this coaching chaos....

I'm a bit more worried about offense because we essentially had a one-man crew with TC... Dwyer & Roddy Jones are talented but they just don't have the vision/experience of TC. Overall we could be better depending on QB development & who is hired...

As for the defense, the line should be solid but LBs will hurt without Guyton and PWheel. Secondary has been a talent problem... i think Tarrant, Butler, Peterson (all redshirted) should produce 2 CBs and 1 safety that are starting-calibre, but will they be ready? I"m hoping Mario Butler can unseat JWD, who I believe is a huge liability at CB.

Safeties should be interesting depending on where MB ends up and if the new staff decides to move DJ Donley and Willie White. Also, some have mentioned Kam Riley as a possible contributer at CB if he's as good as advertised...

I'm a bit worried about the line, seems like we have too many players that fit the tackle profile and not enough guards. I hope Cord Howard can stabilize his academics so we do not have to play awaiting game like we did at the beginning of this year. I look forward to what Yandel and Claytor (my favorite recruit from last years class) can bring to the table.

In my opinion Dwyer and Jones will be 1 and 2 on the tb deph chart. I'm a bit concern about Dwyer's ability to read his blocks, if he develops that then the sky is the limit. There were many long runs that Deuce had throughout his carreer that did not end in TD's because of his speed (like agains Miami this year), Dwyer has the jets to finnish those runs.

QB and WR developement, better accuracy and reads from Josh Nesbitt as well as learning to hold on to the football are key, he won't start untill he gets those. Crisper routes by the receivers are needed as well as better hands, but we all know that. Don't underestimate TB as well, he might end up a starter again.

On D I'm not concerned about the line (our depth is ridiculous at DE) and backers but the secondary is a big worry, I say Burnett and Jahi start at the corners and maybe Donley moves to safety (he was so great in HS). If we could get T'Sahrvan Bell it would be great since he and Butler can fight it out for nickelback, a weakness in past years, specialy in Tenuta's system against the post.

Ohh and we have to replace both Bell and Brooks, who were solid if not spectacular last year.

On Nesbitt: I think we have all heard that he may be in academic trouble. If this is true, wouldn't we know by the bowl game? If his grades are that bad he would not be eligible to play right?

I believe so, similar to the Kenny Scott scenario last year. This would be a killer for Josh's development. The practices leading up to the bowls are always very helpfull.

Really? Nesbitt's grades are bad? That won't be good news if we get PJ as coach, because he is the most mobile of the potential starters. What is his major? He has to jump on the M-train (management) as all of the more academically challenged do here at Tech.

I would say spectacular is an understatement. I believe that Bell was a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza Award, and Brooks right now is leading, rather, dominating the voting for the Ray Guy award. Our Special Teams is going to hurt. Where are we going to find someone else who makes every XP for 4 years, and someone who can punt out of their own endzone to the other 15 yard line (youtube Durant Brooks 76 yard punt)???

Easy big boy! Beleive it or not, some people just don't give a hoot about being an engineer! Why did we go to Tech? Good question...although the MGT schools is a great Business school.

I'm pretty sure Nesbitt is already a MGT major, he doesn't strike me as the EE type if you know what I mean. That said, I find it hard to believe that w/ all the resources (tutors, word, etc..) available, he can't pull a C average.

The media guide says the he, along with most of the football players (most of the athletes as well), is a management major.

true ... sorry for any low blows to the mgt guys here ... but it is the honest truth that plenty of people switch to mgt because it is a bit simpler ... when there is nickname for switching to management (riding the m-train) it is not an isolated event.

It's true back when I was in school (2000-2003) the transition for acadmeincally challenged CS students was CS-->IE-->Management, and it usualy happened after the dreaded CS2130.

Now the progression for academically challenged CS majors is CS --> Computational Media. And they even got rid of 2130 and people still think the replacement is hard! Gah.
