WOW! Nobody replying to this one like the other yet? Wonder why?

Something I noticed on TV a long time ago....good news just doesn't sell like bad news does. Wonder why?

Fire Coach Tenuta! :laugher:

Good one Contact.

The other day people were just echoing the frustration of CG who said he was not impressed and clearly disappointed with the lack of urgency moreso than just the results.

Obviously a fire has been lit...CG's "concerns" obviously got someones attention!!!

Hey, I admitted I jumped the gun the other day, but my main concern still in all of the linemen being on the same page. These guys need to command respect in the huddle because I feel this is where we will win the games.

As I said in the last thread these scrimmages are fairly meaningless. I'll withhold judgement on the offense until I see them in a game.

Let's hope we can crack the top 100 this year!

I agree with ya. I posted this to get some discussion started.

I agree that the negative news is going to get more attention but to me at least this 2nd scrimmage is a more non-news because it sounds like a run of the mill scrimmage. Offense had some plays here but nothing spectacular. If there was an offensive explosion then you might see a bigger response.

Thanks, GTL. The biggest thing to me was "hitting CJ in stride." If we can get the timing down consistently, we'll be fine.

Question for you, GTL. How long (yds) was the pass in the air?

I don't think anyone has jump the gun about Reggie and the offense. The article clearly states that in the writer's opinion the defense won most of the battles. With the offense doing better late in the scrimmage.

We need the offense to come out and kick in the teeth of Tenuta's defense at the first snap. Not late in the scrimmage.....when the intensity of the defense may have been toned down some or some backups was seeing some time.

We are a defensive team, who gets limited talent to begin with and then sends 70% of that talent that we do get to the defensive side of the ball. I'm sure the offense would be doing much better with Michael Johnson at TE, Kenny Scott at WR, Wrotto at Tackle for 3 years now, etc. On that note, we aren't looking for our offense to dominate the defense, because that isn't what we are built for. We are built to grind out defensive wins. All we need from the offense is 3 touchdowns and a few fieldgoals in 60 minutes of gametime and also not give the other team too good of field position. If you are looking for our offense to dominate in practice then you are sadly mistaken as to what we are trying to accomplish as a team. In practices we should look for 1-3 big plays, at least a 50% completion percentage, and at least 3.5 yards per carry.

Why look for so little you ask?
Because everything is relative. And relative to how good our defense is and the fact that they know our offense like the back of their hand, I have full confidence that if we can get close to 4 yards per carry and over 50% completion percentage in practice, then we could win any game on our schedule as long as our defense continues to play well. So, when something says that the defense won most of the battles then we should take it with a grain of salt because that should be the expected outcome.

JoeCakeEater: I don't buy and I'll bet Chan Gailey doesn't either. He gave up running the offense because the results had been atrocious. I'll bet if you repeated your last bit of reasoning to him, he would tell you that you are dead wrong.

To trot out the same old excuses doesn't pan out anymore.

A better idea of the offense's effectiveness would have been if they came out firing and getting after the defense until they stuck it in the end zone!

Course then we would be criticizing the defense because we know if they can't stop our offense we have no hope this year.

stateline, I'm not looking for the O to kick the D in the teeth. What I'm looking for is for them to play them even. If we can ever get there, we're in great shape given how good our D is. Moving the ball fairly consistently...scoring a reasonable amount of time...kind of like the scrimmage report sounded. If you're looking for the O to ever dominate the D I think you'll be waiting a long time.

I took it that the offense is in a learning process...the first scrimmage was awful, the second didn't start well, but ended up good...that sounds like progress to me. The latest report on insiders sounds like even more progress was made yesterday.

But the injuries on the Oline really, really bother me. We were looking to start out big, experienced and deep and now we're not experienced nor deep. Of course the fact that we finally did have some quality depth on the oline means we can still be good, but Trey going down really hurts IMO.

Ya, it would be great if the O were to come out kicking butt, however they gotta learn it somewhere sometime.

I want to say this would be nice, but it would be in fact awful.
There is simply no way that this Tech offense should be able to come close to dominating the #1 defense. Not this year.

If that was happening, we would have some real problems come September.
We are going to win tough games with defense and field position.

Maybe next year.

pocket, gotta disagree. With the best receiver in the country, a stable of good Runningbacks, and an experienced OLine... SLJ is right, there is no reason these guys shouldn't be able to knock the defense square in the nose. They play against them all the time, which is another advantage too.

You guys are talking about dominating the defense though. I don't think that's going to happen nor do I want to see it. As I said, I want the offense to be able to go toe to toe with the defense. If we can do that, we're in good shape.

stateline,

You're forgetting that the defense has many built in advantages over the offense, including how vanilla the offense was, how the defense could pretty well guess the snap count and the numerous O-Line injuries. Look at any board in the nation right now and except for teams with much better offenses than defenses, such as ND, the defenses are all winning the scrimmages.

Really, this is good news that the offense is at least competing well against a top 20-30 defense. If we extrapolate that out to the season's games, it would mean we would beat teams with lesser defenses (Maryland, NC State) and play even with the teams with defenses at our level (Miami, VPI, UGA). Beating all the low- and middle-tier teams and spliting with the upper teams would then give us a 9-3 or 10-2 record, which is all we can really ask for.

Not that I'll ever gurantee anything this consistent from Georgia Tech, but I'm just pointing out that our offense doesn't have to run over a top 20-30 defense to have a very good record this year.
