Just thought that our alumni would like to know, our athletic association is charging the students the same price as everyone else for tickets to the Orange Bowl. So don't be surprised when there's a dismal showing of some of the most energetic fans: students.

Also if you didn't know, we pay $246/yr in student athletic fees. Plus this year they charged an extra $36 if you wanted guaranteed tickets. That means I've put $347 into the games thus far. I can't throw down $131 for a student ticket plus the travel/lodging to stay in Miami.

And if you noticed my username, yes, that means the guy with the whiteboard won't be there.

PS- Iowa students don't pay an athletic fee.

GTAA doesn't set the pricing on the tickets. The Orange Bowl does. So if the GTAA reduces prices for the tickets (for any group), they'll have to recoop it from somewhere (someone) else.

Are Iowa students getting free/discounted tickets through the school?

You also get access to one of the largest and most up to date athletic centers in the country. I pay $50 per month for a gym membership to a dumpy gym. Plus you get free basketball tickets, I have pay for those.

I just posted a RT flight for $133, and you can priceline a hotel for $49. Get someone to buy you a ticket for christmas, and you're out maybe $200. Ill even give you free alcohol at my tailgate if you come.

I understand a lot of students don't have the money for this. I am a student as well, but I decided to co-op to help offset the costs. I've been to all the games outside of Miami and UVA so far, and I'll be at the Orange Bowl. I'm sure after athletic fees and all the tickets, I've spent ~$500 at least. Worth every penny though!

I'm sorry; I wasn't aware that the GTAA should subsidize your trip for you. Your fees get you into basketball, football, and every other sport. They are, I believe, average compared to other ACC schools and slightly below average for SEC schools. In addition, the Athletic Department reserves a large number of seats for students. Its the grad students who don't go to games that are punished: and anyone who doesn't like football should be punished. Severely.

Don't have the money to go? Sell some books. Get a job on campus for $7 an hour. What are you doing with your spare organs? Ride 5 people in a car. Split gas. If you are confident and good looking, parachute. If you aren't, split a hotel room with 9 friends. It builds character. Pack ramen noodles and a hot plate. Sleep on the side of the road. Watch out for alligators---if they don't eat you, you can eat them! Mow some lawns this summer. Consider prize fighting. Eat Ramen noodles uncooked to save on utilities. Shop for second hand clothes; you'll still be fashionable at MaTech. Do you have friends at Georgie? Hire them and start a landscaping business. Are you good at math? Start counting cards at casino's in mississippi. You can do it. If you are flying, find a friend who doesn't weigh much and put them in your luggage. Most of all, quit whining.

Your time is over Lebowski! I suggest you do what your parents did and get a job sir. The bums lost! Condolences!

The gym is a separate fee. I too miss cheap gym membership. Though I should've worked out more when I was at Tech.

Iowa students are paying the same price for Orange Bowl tickets. But they didn't pay an athletic fee.

Regardless of who is to blame, the point is that students shouldn't have to pay the same as everyone else. We're the most energetic of the fans and we certainly influence the energy of the team. We're less likely to be able to afford it. And discounting our tickets should be considered an investment in future donators. Why would they want to piss us off now?

come on man. you don't pay the same amount. You just said you paid $36 for season tickets.

You are ticked off because they aren't subsidizing your trip?

Look at our fees compared to the ACC and SEC. Then tell me you are paying too much. Winning costs money. Everyone has to pay.

I feel for you honestly, but trust me, this argument wont get you anywhere. Until you're already giving big money, but the most part Tech doesn't care about you, in a group or individually.

you students need to man up. dont go drinking for two weekends and dont buy as much crap and you can save up the money to pay the measly $150.

i paid about 10x at least what you paid for your "season tickets," so i have been subsidizing you all year long already.

sell your whiteboard on eBay as "the whiteboard that got on ESPN". Perhaps that'll fund your way to the game

or, go give blood or go deposit some sperm. geez. make it happen, quit whining

Yes, they should subsidize our *ticket* (not "trip"). Isn't that what the athletic fee is supposed to do....reduce ticket costs?

I've got a job, I work as a TA. I sell my books. I do eat Ramen (though admittedly not everyday). Counting cards...no thanks. But you know what that money goes to? School.

You guys are all missing the point. Why do students pay the same as everyone else?

Suck it up rookie. I'm a student as well and the last thing keeping me from this game would be cost.

You pay $136 for guaranteed seats to every home football game and free ACC basketball tickets. Take a look at the cost at other schools that consistently have some level of success before you start complaining.

It has. It reduced your basketball tickets to $0. It reduced your football tickets to $36.

because in this case the ORANGE BOWL sets the prices and the GTAA has to pay. Normally, we play where WE OWN THE STADIUM (or the other team does) and so GTAA controls pricing. not in this case

see, thats a big difference.

now for the flip side, why SHOULDNT students pay the same?

I'm going to sell the books that I have left and ask money for Christmas. Hopefully as a student I'll be able to make the trip down.

It costs a lot more than $150 when it's all said and done (food, hotel, transportation, etc.). And we'll be paying the same 10x price when we're alumni and can afford it like you.

because in this case the ORANGE BOWL sets the prices and the GTAA has to pay.

Fine, then FedEx can save a bowl gift or two and offer a student price. Why should there be a student price? Well, that's pretty damn standard at any student sporting event. Students make less money.

Ok, I've said my peace. I'll quit whining. But when people start bitching on here about why there were hardly any students at the game or why the fans weren't loud enough, you'll know why.

It supplies regular season. This is something additional. I think it should be a discount for students but it's not, that's not just GT though or it's fault.

Get a group together, find a cheap hotel and put 4-6 in a room, split gas. Stub hub will probably have cheap tickets closer to gametime. It can be done.
