No Orange Bowl Student Discount

By the way, I thought the student turnout at the ACCCG was poor and hope for better at the Orange Bowl. Can't the students rent some cheap buses or something. I know you can get cheap hotels.

Don't count on it when it's a further drive and 2.5x the ticket price. If that's really what you want, then you should be in favor of reduced ticket prices.

Having a big and energetic student section gets you recognized (obviously this is ancillary to good football).

I don't understand why all of you non-student tech fans are telling all the students on here that you think the price is fair and that we should suck it up.

Alumni of all people should want to encourage student attendence. The more students that attend games now, the more alumni that will attend in the future. Encourage building our loyal fanbase...thats a lot more valuable in the longrun than the extra money they'll make off these tickets.

There's no other way you can put this: if you are a student who enjoys football, and don't have some sort of obligation during the bowl game, you should be there.

There are no excuses. You are in college. Get creative. Live a little. Don't come back with "they should help pay my way." Figure it out. Its $125. Two nights at a dirt cheap hotel with 4 others (5 in the car). Shouldn't be more than $250; and that is with food, gas, and grain alcohol.

Trust me, I'm glad I took roadtrips while I was in school. At the beginning of your career, your time is rarely your own. You'll be glad you did it.

If you have no other obligations and can't figure out how to be there, then you stink as a college student. Period. End of story. I don't care whether they should have subsidized your ticket. Doesn't matter. Quit whining and get to Miami. If you can't figure out how to make $300 now and between then, good luck surviving in the real world. You have over 20 days.

p.s. I hope that wasn't you with the "where's spiller" on the white board while he was injured/getting a shot for pain. That was not classy.

Especially when you consider that people are complaining about not getting a discount. Even if they gave a 50% discount to students, that's $60. If $60 is going to make the difference between you going to the Orange Bowl or not, you fail. I understand other commitments or maybe even the long trip, but $60? No way.

You know what I did when I couldn't afford tickets to the Final Four my freshman year?

I didn't go on a message board and bitch about it, that's for sure. This is the dumbest thread.

There's plenty of bitching to go around on this board.

I totally agree. Just find it odd that there isn't a student price like most other sporting events. It pissed me off and so I went on a rant.

No sir. I'm not that low. I've made fun of funny names and bad plays. But I don't make fun of injured players. Since I started bringing the board several other people have too.

This thread has so much wine in it I got drunk reading it. Now I'm going to fail my last final...dammit.

Guys it cost me a lot of money to fly back to GT for home games this season. I think you should help subsidize my Orange Bowl trip, kthxbye.

Man up kid, kill a bitch and take the money, that's the best way to do it.

I have never heard of a school subsidizing bowl game tickets... I guess it may have happened before... but seriously dude, quit whining. Can't afford it? Don't go. Cheap football games are not a right.

Yeah, and that sign didn't pan out too well. Whiteboardguy, I was just giving you a hard time. I've been in your shoes before.

I paid it. Regardless of the argument, it's worth the cash. Jackets in a BCS bowl!

Tickets down to $82 on stubhub and will prob go down more if not get your ass to the game anyway!!!

Yes, they should subsidize our *ticket* (not "trip"). Isn't that what the athletic fee is supposed to do....reduce ticket costs?

I've got a job, I work as a TA. I sell my books. I do eat Ramen (though admittedly not everyday). Counting cards...no thanks. But you know what that money goes to? School.

You guys are all missing the point. Why do students pay the same as everyone else?

Students pay the same as everyone else, because the athletic fees pays for the following:

1) 6-7 home football games
2) ~15 home basketball games
3) Many more baseball games
4) Many more volleyball games

These are all things non-students have to buy a ticket to enter (I am not sure about tennis, and other sports. I admit, I didn't watch them).

If you don't think that is worth 250-300, then I don't know what to say.

There is absolutely no reason to subsidize this. Besides. How much will they subsidize it by, and what percentage of your total cost will it be? I bet you, the $25 or so saved, will not be the deciding factor on whether a student is gonna spend upwards of $200 for the entire trip.

In fact, Tech students have it better than pretty much all other decent FBS colleges. Go ask your UGAg friends how much they need to spend...

Glad to hear it. The whiteboard is a great idea.

The reason they don't offer student tickets is because they don't need to; bowl games usually sell out. As a Tech student, you should be smart enough to realiz it. Would it be nice to have a student rate? Hell yeah. I'm a student too and would love cheap tickets. But there is certainly no obligation to. I dontthink the Super Bowl has student rates either.
