I was thinking about what a potential new coach would inheret and it aint pretty. We have no real legitamite QB's on the roster.

It is obvious now that Bennett is a 1-AA type talent. When he's asked to make plays we are in trouble. Nesbitt is very, very raw. He is a big, athletic runner but I don't like what I have seen with his passing and I am not sure that this can really be taught. He is not an accurate passer. Booker is a moderately talented transfer who will be a senior next year (still wish we had seen him a few times this year).

Gailey has recruited QB's that fall into 2 categories:

1.) Lightly talented traditional QB's with few other BCS offers (Bennett, Manley, etc..)
2.) Athletes recruited primarily by other div 1 teams for a different position (Reggie, Nesbitt, Carter).

Incoming frosh Sean Renfree is supposed to be a solid signing. As a true freshman, he will probably be as raw as Nesbitt is this year.

On the other hand, if Bennett has maxed out his potential, why not let #9 play out the strings this year and gain some experience/confidence for 2008. And what better games to do that in than Blue Devils and the Sheep...

Josh has barely had a chance to throw the ball this year. He has all the tools and can be a very good QB. He will grow by leaps and bounds by the start of the season next year. I have a lot of confidence in Josh, he will be a good one before he leaves.

What do you judge this on, the 5 chances Chan has given him? One of those would've been a TD has his receiver not goofed. Give the kid a real shot and we'll see what happens.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday...not a super situation as QB play means everything.

It is too bad Threet missed his girlfriend so badly...he had a good shot of competing in the ACC...no he will be behind Mallet at Michigan. What a bad decision!

Sean Renfree looks like he will be a good one...seems like Godsey except with speed. Smart kid, great football decisioning, years of experience, accurate, strong enough arm, escapability, etc.

Drew Little stands a good shot at greatness as well...we just have to wait a lot long for him to get on campus. This guys is like Byron Leftwitch.

It does not matter.

ccg would screw up Favre.

Threet, after one spring and a few preseason practices, could see it.

Need to put Nesbitt in as starter. Nobody has the nads to do it.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Chan cashes his paycheck.

Not for long, my friend. Not for long.

Renfree is going to be a great QB at Tech. I will be shocked if he does not win the job next year.

As someone who follows I-AA/FCS/Whatever football. You're being generous calling TB a I-AA quarterback. Maybe a lower-tier I-AA quarterback.

That's good to hear. How many of his games have you seen?
I changed that post because it was negative toward Nesbitt and I should not of said that. I think Nesbitt is a great talent but watch some film on Renfree and it is obvious he is going to be great.

Player of the week

People are always comparing Arizona football to California. Not many people give us credit and Notre Dame did their best to prove we can be competitive in the football world when they beat Marin HS from Kentfield, CA. Sean Renfree was lights out in that game. He went 24 of 35 for 347 yards and 4 TDs versus 1 INT. That was Sean first :wow:

This is a meaningless thread imo. Each of the guys we have has talents that could be used effectively if our staff would put them in a position to do what they are capable of. How highly recruited was Thad Lewis at Duke? How about Evans at NCSU? Just because we don't use our QBs well doesn't mean they can't play.

How do you conclude Renfree is light years ahead of Nesbitt from that video? Nesbitt looked pretty freakin' sick in his videos as well.

This is the absurdity of following recruiting. You're throwing a guy under the bus who was highly touted out of HS and hasn't had a chance yet in college in favor of a guy who is highly touted in HS and hasn't even gotten to college yet.

I like having Nesbitt on roster...and am excited to have Renfree coming in....then Little after that.

I will say that Renfree is running a more sophisticated offense...and he is one of those guys who has spent all summer, every summer, going to camps...receiving high-end instruction...etc. Plus...he has an incredible TD:INT ratio...something like 10:1.

I'm pretty sure this is right, but there are 2 starting QBs in the ACC right now from GA that we didn't recruit Harper at Clemson and Yates at UNC. So we evidently thought we had better players then them either on campus or in their recruiting class. So did we miss or screw them up once we got them here? Whichever you think it is, if you do believe we have no QBs it's just another failure of the coaching staff. Personally I think their failure is in developing them.

That's great, but I just think we need to give Nesbitt a fair shake before we anoint a guy who hasn't even signed as the savior.

Absolutely the most spot on post of the year!. Thanks NC jacket. All this other crap about wishing we had other talent is just stupid. We have talent! mis-manged yes..but talent indeed. The pretend-insight that just because a high schooler was good or bad that somehow that will relate to college level is all guess work.
