NO WAY THE D cost us the Wake game?

When I see posts like that i want to PUKE. Show me ONE game this year where the DEFENSE had a TWO to ONE ratio of plays over the Offense and the team won.

A team wins the game by keeping the other D on the field. We had TURNOVERS and way too many 3 and outs. We also had penalties on the line. Actually the D played good enough in the first half that we could have put a high enough score that it would not have come down to a 2nd half game.

Was it the D's best game? NO But understand Wake is one of the best rushing teams in the country. Even with the D being on the field the WHOLE GAME they still put the Off in a position to win.

It was the O and the D that cost us the game. The D had very few 3 and outs and allowed long, clock eating drives. A good example is when we pinned them down on their 10 yard line (after the horrible decision not to go for 4th and inches). Wake embarked on a long drive that resulted in a FG and consumed most of the 3rd quarter.

Please don't puke.

One of Bobby Dodd's greatest wins was the 7-6 victory over the Tide. But yes, a couple of years earlier we lost in the last seconds, by a field goal, a game that they scored more than 20 points.

...and another thing, Saturday coming out of the stadium I felt worst than the defeat to BC a few moons ago.

beat the Turtles.... and THWG !

The defense did a great job in getting the ball back after the last fumble in very good field position. The offense failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

The D certainly did plenty for us to win the game. The O fell short.

the offense stunk, the defense stunk a little less, we could not stop the wake mis-direction and our offense reminds me of dan reeves.

I agree somewhat with Law. Hell, you can't give any team a 38-22 time possession advantage and expect to win. I know that we haven't had winning
performances from our QB's but I think that comes from the fact they have not been developed. That is, taught the fundamentals of the offensive schemes that Tech employs. No one can teach anything that they themselves don't understand.
Some folks know a lots but they are poor communicators and are unable to convey their knowledge to others. I don't know which category BOB falls under but something is not getting through to the QB's. I don't think for a minute that either of our QB's are stupid but our offense is disjointed. Wake's offense seems to be
the kind that baffles Tenuta. Last year N.C. led the ACC in total defense but wake lit up the Carolina defense despite them having Sims and Peppers. We did the same to the Heels buy running Joe Burns almost every play.If our QB play will stabilize I have no doubt that our D is good enough to usher in a successful year.

Who was first the egg or the chicken ?

YES ! they had the ball longer because we could not stop them !

The fumble and the int's did not loose the game... it was the counter to the right, on fourth down, when they WALKED the ball into the end zone !!!!

TWENTY ONE points should win any game.

QED.

What confuses me is this....

Up until the Wake game, I thought that the secondary was much better...More agressive, playing the ball etc...Then against Wake, it looked like the secondary of last year(s)....(??)
Very confusing - PLUS , when opposed to a running offense like Wakes, I would think that would create a scenario or the secondary playing up MORE not less - THATS what confused me the most about the wake game...ie that cushion we have their receivers - playing 10-12 yds off the LOS...

Any theories as to why we played off the receivers like that ?

No, in this day and age of offensive football, 31 points should be a win.

Consider this, if the defense had stopped them three and out, they would not have been on the field all day long. Thus, it is the defensive coaches fault for not preparing the defense properly.

I agree with another poster in this instance, "which came first, the chicken or the egg?". Stop them early on a drive and you do not have to stay on the field all day long.

How many of their points were scored in the first half as opposed to the fourth quarter when tired teams lose games.

Also, it was the inept pass defense that cost us the game, not the running game. The poor pass defense opened up their running plays more.

Pure and simple, it was the offensive and defensive coaching that lost us the game. The loss is equally shared by the defensive and offensive coaches, also Gailey, because he is ultimately responsible for both.

It is confusing that an aggressive defense played that way(and poorly).Specifically ,I have yet to figure why we were off those short patterns 8 yds at times.I guess that big reputation of the Wake QB scared us.
Actually the DEf didn't play well but better relative to the Offense. The difference is that we EXPECTED that from the O ,not from the D.

That loose coverage on the corners would have looked sensible IF we had been stopping the run by clogging the middle, but they just ran over us. Knocked our D-line on their butts, and I don't know where the LBs and safeties were.

Their boys beat our boys.

The failure to adjust to the 2nd half does seem intriguing. Especially given that Coach Gailey said that adjustments were made off the field, just not ON the field. He DID say that and I beelieve him. You wonder if maybe there's not a strong enough defensive voice on the sidelines to IMPLEMENT those adjustments. Maybe Tenuta needs to come down or maybe one of the D-coaches needs to step it up on the sidelines. Just a thought. I know nothing.

No single unit or person looses a game. There is such a thing as a team. You win as a team, you loose as a team. You learn and then you move on. Tech will still compete with every team on their schedual. There is no worries from me. Tech will go to a bowl this season and will finish with a over .500 record. This is the first season of a new coach and tech is playing with a roster that is a little depleated. Do not worry about the little things such as football. it will only put more grey hairs on your head.

Whether you blame the D for the loss of not, that game was really telling. It looked like Tenuta had never seen mis-direction before. We stopped that counter play in the middle exactly one time...brought Muyers up and he plugged the hole...every other time it went for a good gain.

Also, it was completely outrageous for a so-called aggressive defense to play 10 yards off their receivers and just give them the short pass all day...even at crunch time.

And the defense played that way all day....no adjustments...or at least none that worked. Very disappointing.

The Wake tragedy was the most frustrating game for me since the Clemson game of last year when Dantzler ran all through our D. (Virginia game last year was agonizing too, but only had to endure it over the radio, not in person.)
