Many people complain about the per seat license fee but the real problem is going to be the expense of gas. It will cost me ~$160 per game in ATL. I have a 4 hr commute however I know some have further.

Is gas $$'s causing others to reevaluate their season tix?

This may be my last year if I don't move back to ATL.

If gas stays above $4/gallon then it will have a HUGE impact on college football IMO.

I was thinking the same thing....but it also hits every school and every fan so it will not be unique to Tech. Seems like everything is changing by the minute right before our eyes in terms of the economy. I will keep plugging along to follow our Jackets. But going to out of town games will be even tougher.
I sure would like to see some action involving Tech getting bus trips to out of town games and not just through the Alumni Assoc. That could take a lot of the "sting" out of travelling but also provide better friendships and fun.:fingersx:

I'm going to ask my buddy at Bradley's about a bus he used for the Braves game. That might be an opportunity to take to a close away game.

People we tailgate with have an RV that they drive to every home game from Alabama. Said it was costing them close to $1,000 already per weekend to come in town, and that would significantly increase this season with gas. They decided to just store the RV in Atlanta now and pick it up when they get into town...

Gas is the sole reason I didn't buy season tickets. It's almost exactly 900 miles round trip from here and my Jeep gets about 16 mpg. I've decided to buy an HD tv instead!

I'm 1400 miles round trip and will be leaving cars in Atlanta and taking a plane ride home. Auto travel is way higher in cost than air travel right now.

Greenville, SC here.

I know I'm not as far away as some of y'all, but I feel your pain on gas prices. We thought about dropping the tickets this year, and may consider it next year depending on prices.

I would think the mean income of a Georgia Tech alum is higher then that of the average SEC fan. We should weather the storm better then most.

HA, we're a bunch of cheap bastards. Other folks will find a way to get to the game, cramming 6 adults and a few toddlers into a 92 accord, we'll figure that the game will go on whether we're there or not. Kind of a shame.

It'll cost me about $6 in gas, roundtrip. However, I always have to cab it after the game. So add another $30 or so.

But our alumni base is generally VERY cheap :twocents:

I detest this statement. Tech's alumni group is no cheaper than any other school. For a long time, and maybe still today, Tech had the highest giving percentage for alumni for a public school. That's not cheap.

There is a difference between what you see when half the alumni in surrounding counties attend and what you see when 10% of alumni in surrounding counties attend a game. With a fairly small fan base (growing recently however), Tech goes deeper into their roles and accordingly less interest naturally applies. But don't measure interest of everyone based on the last few to attend.

The biggest problem facing Tech is the large number of options that Atlantans have to choose from. Tech grads fall into these same categories. Even if I wanted to support every Tech program, I'd still want to go to Braves, Thrashers, Falcons, etc. games. It wears you out eventually and something has to give.

But don't confuse options to general support and/or cheapness.

Think about all the colleges that have a hugs RV following! Those guys get about 7-8 mpg. That will be drastically affected.

Eh. I think it's more like

* our alumni base is smallish (compared to a Michigan)
* our alumni base is playing world of warcraft
* our alumni base often leaves ATL for engineering jobs elsewhere
* reggie ball
* our fan base is mostly alumni (unlike UGAy, where every toothless inbred redneck **** stain from the Bama border in is a dawg4lyfe)

I'm proud to be one of the VERY few fans who just chose Georgia Tech as my team. I even have a Buzz tattoo!

I've got season tickets this year; but if gas prices continue to go up I may consider just doing some single game tickets next year. It is hard enough to justify the drive to watch us play Gardner-Webster or whomever even if gas was free.
