not really football related, but everyone hates the ajc

Dude, if you treat that paper like theonion, you'll get ALOT more enjoyment out of it.

This is what happens when you let UGA grads run a newspaper.

It's bad enough that the AJC has cut its newsroom by more than 50 percent in the last five years.
It's bad enough that one of the recent beat writers — and it's been musical chairs of late for that beat — has gotten out of the business entirely to go to law school.
It's bad enough that pretty soon, you'll be lucky to get a print copy of the AJC anywhere OTP.
But when you focus that much attention and resources to your Web product ... and you allow mistakes like that to happen and to fester — because the damn headline hadn't changed in more than a day, so it continues to be wrong — it's time to raise the white flag at 72 Marietta Street and just admit you really don't care anymore or at least you're really not even trying.

I think the real issue here is that the AJC, like all other newspapers, is dying. Let's be realistic; no one who has graduated college in a field remotely related to journalism is stupid enough to think that headline is right. This has to be a result of understaffing and stretching their people too thin.

Someone here a while back posted that the AJC was losing $1million a week. Between that, the reduced home delivery plans, and the increasing frequency of mistakes like this(both stupid grammar mistakes and simple fact-checking errors), I don't see the paper continuing for too much longer.

It is still the 16th largest newspaper publication in the US... I don't think it's failing in terms of circulation. But they still can't write anything worth reading...

It's not failing in terms of circulation. It's failing in terms of money.

It's circulation is off considerably and that was before it shrank and shrank and shrank its distribution area.

And distribution methodology . . . out of the box thinking . . . understanding your audience . . .etc.

In fact it's no different than pretty much any other pre-web media source. As a mid-market news paper, it's just one of the first "big" ones where all of these problems are starting to become obvious.

I'm sure if we had to read the Akron Gazette (or whatever it's called), we would have started seeing the same thing about 2-3 years ago.

Exactly. I used to get the Marietta Daily Journal, and it pretty much became nothing but wire articles and atrociously written articles about high school sports. The AJC's problems don't have as much to do with lack of quality(relative to other newspapers), but with an outdated business model(much like other newspapers.) They could be top 10 in the country in terms of circulation and they'd still be in trouble.

With the Federal Government handing out money as if it grew on trees, isn't it about time for the media (i.e. Newspapers) to be asking for bailouts? :)

It does my heart good to watch the ajc suffer so.

I remember as a youngster how my Dad and his business were issued, for lack of a better term, verbal threats by the ajc if he put any of his advertising dollars with the then new Atlanta Times.

Arrogant aholes then, and now.

And it is always good, especially during the Memorial Day period, to see blame America first scumbags suffer.
