Regarding special teams....

The punting team was very good, maybe even great....

The punt return team was serviceable, but no real threat for a big runback or score...

The KO return team was only fair, if that. Certainly no threat to score or have a big return....to me we need a KO return man who is fast and unafraid...Grant, Evans, whoever we used all would tippy toe up towards the blockers, trying to make the defenders miss, when all the successfull returners just take off full bore from the gitgo....

And the KO team, well just sucked. Awful.

Hopefully the coverage will be better with the talent we have coming in, but I ask y'all - does the scheme need to change? Yes, we need a kicker who can boom it outta the endzone (MY did it repeatedly last year - why not this year), but even so other teams repeatedly kicks 'em short and still gets the returner down around the 20...why not us?

Besides firing Gailey, what needs to happen to improve special teams? They cost us at least TWO games this year....

Our kickoff coverage unit took a big dive this year because of the DBs who graduated last year, forcing last year's special teams players to move into DB roles and putting many new players on the kickoff coverage team.

Next year should be better, with another year of practice for most of the special teams players and good recruits such as Everson and Tarrant coming in.

Still, our mean limitation are our kickers. With them, I don't think we'll be able to consistently stop teams before the 20, but hopefully we could at least stop them before 30.
