But I'll be damned if I'm disappointed in this team.
We had a couple of critical errors in a game that turned out to be "First one to screw up loses" late in the contest.
I find it hard to group this year's game with the last three in Chan's tenure and say "It's just five straight losses. Pathetic." And that's simply because of how the tone has changed. In 2002, we needed to upset them in their house, but they blew our doors off on all sides of the ball. In 2003, it was just a clean victory by Georgia. Last year, we stayed with them because of a lucky hand.
This year, we played ball with these guys. We were in a position to beat them, and it just didn't happen.
While I am the sort of person that can take a little bit out of moral victories, I don't look at tonight like that. I am very upset that we lost - my hopes for the game tonight had skyrocketed higher than I ever remember. The atmosphere was fantastic and by kickoff, I could have exploded from the excitement.
I'm not going to say Chan coached a perfect game tonight - because he didn't. There were a few plays where I thought we weren't doing what we should have - then again, one one or two of those made me think "What the hell.." as I saw them develop, but then they gained us some nice yardage. I guess my main beef is that we didn't throw to Calvin as much as I would have liked. On the other hand, Reggie wasn't exactly in the zone tonight.
It sucks that we lost, and it hurts. It's a bitter way to close out an otherwise fun regular season for me. It's a damn shame that our seniors (Who I absolutely love, by the way - they showed some passion tonight) couldn't leave out of the flats with a win over the mutts.
I'm proud of our guys for playing their hearts out. I wanted to win more than anything in the world, but the hurt from not getting it done does not overshadow how proud I am of these guys.
Here's to getting a good bowl bid, jacking up that bowl win percentage and getting into the offseason on a high note.
Love ya, seniors. Go Jackets - To Hell With Georgia
