Notre Dame (sad, sad, sad...)

#1 - this post is not about Notree Dame per se

When Charley Weis was brought in in 2005 - half-way through the season (after 6 games) Notre Dame extended his contract to 10-years 30-40 million dollars (blah, blah, blah).

They finish that year and the next like 9-3 / 10-3 then last year (we all know) Notre Dame went 3-9 (with Tech helping launch that). Now this year they stand 5-4 (definitely better than last year) and have excellent recruits on board (according to most of the services). The future is looking brighter for the team program for sure - Clausen is getting better etc...

Now (because of 2 loses in a row) there is talk that there are major factions that want Weis out / he is no good / not head coaching material....

To me it is just so sad (really pathetic) that a program felt obligated to extend Weis' contract to 10 years - after only 6 games - now 3 years later with the program on the upswing - there is plenty of REAL TALK of buying him out or whatever.

I mean - this is just absolutely a cut-throat business.

Now, don't reply saying "good on Notre Dame - they deserve it, etc..." - I have used Notre Dame since it is topical today and they have a very exagerated case.

When the football coach (and for that matter the hoops coach) make at least double often triple or more than the School's President - then is on the "hot-seat" so fast - it just is so not about wqhat the academic mission of a university is all about.

I am not naive - I know it is all business... nevertheless it totally sucks and sends a very bad message to the student body.

P.S. I guess this is just one reason of many that our grand'ole USA is virtually the only country in the UN Charter (now over 250 countries) that uses and degrades it's 4 and 5-star academic universities as semi-pro training grounds.

OK - go ahead anf flame me for my last remark, but you know I'm right.

Off topic. (Not that this thread seems to have one)

Take notice of the rather suggestive "look" Phoebus is giving Esmeralda. What do you think he is thinking about?!?! :laugher:

It is very brave and quite magnanimous for The Great Weis Hope to throw his offensive coordinator under the bus by publicly announcing his decision to reclaim leadership of the Notre Dame offense with defensive powerhouses Navy and Syracuse on the Irish schedule.

The article says rumor has it the immense ND coach will be fired if ND loses to Navy.

I have to laugh at the fonts who pointed to Weis as an example of a great coach as an indictment of Gailey.

Making a hunchback sandwich?

Back to the OP.

You have to remember that Weiss got almost all of his glory (and cash after) based on a game he lost to USC.

And look, the gargoyles and hunchback are all looking at each other. So we have the tall blond guy and the hot foreign girl trying to get together, while the hunchback is left to grin sheepishly at the gargoyles. Are they trying to say hunchbacks aren't people too?

EDIT: I guess I should respond to the op, too. What "REAL TALK" do you know of regarding firing Charlie Weis? Angry fans on message boards do not count. As for your last remark: other countries don't even let their athletes go to 4/5 star universities. They start their pro careers far younger than college age. Which is better?

Making a hunchback sandwich?

the blond dude is grinning at the chick because he has his "sword" stuck way into the Hunchback (hence his glaces at the gargoyles)

the chick is grinning b/c she is saying "your secret is safe with me as long as you dont try that on me!"

the gargoyles are sympathizing with the hunchback

I like to refer to that game when someone says there's no such thing as a "moral victory". That loss is their signature achievement since Weis has been there, don't think they have beaten anybody that ended up with fewer than 4 losses since Weiss has been there except for maybe Navy once. They have been nothing more than a middle tier Big 11 team without being in the Big 11.

Subject: Southern California

Here be my truth. First off, let me say that this post is not about Southern California. Don't tell me I'm wrong about this: They are not in the SEC. And the reason this is Unjust is that the SEC has South Carolina, and it's unfair that South Carolina can't call itself USC and then go buy a house for their best player. Okay okay okay okay, I know that upset some of you all. But hear my beef: The problem with football is that kids go out and play hard and the person who makes all the money doesn't even wear pads, can you dig it? And this will blow your mind: I don't even think it's made out of pig skin anymore. Pig skins are pork rinds and you buy that at the store. Check it again: You buy pork rinds at the store in a little bitty bag, and that ain't football. It's a travesty too. The NCAA has been trying to put pig-farmers out of business for ages so that they can sell their soy-dogs and veggie burgers at every game. That's the truth and that's my name.

Okay, flame all over my face.

Much of the seemingly excessive spending in college athletics is not to the detriment of your average student. Rather, the "excesses" are mostly largesse from big buck donors/alum.
