I have shamelessly stolen GTJT's attempt at a starting lineup for 2007. If it can't cheer you up I don't know what will.

Offense:

WR James Johnson Jr. *
TE Colin Peek Jr.
OT Andrew Gardner Jr. *
OG Matt Rhodes Sr. *
C Kevin Tuminello Sr. *
OG Nate McManus Sr. *
OT AJ Smith Jr.
WR Greg Smith So. or Damryius Thomas R-Fr.
QB Taylor Bennett Jr.
FB Mike Cox Sr. *
RB Tashard Choice Sr. *
PK Travis Bell Sr. *

Defense:

DE Darrell Robertson Sr. *
DT Darryl Richard Jr. *
DT Vance Walker Jr.
DE Adamm Oliver Sr. *
LB Shane Bowen So. or Anthony Barnes R-Fr.
LB Philip Wheeler Sr. *
LB Gary Guyton Jr. *
CB Avery Roberson Sr. *
S Jamal Lewis Sr. *
S Djay Jones Sr. *
CB Laurence Marius So. or Jahi Word-Daniels Jr.
P Durant Brooks Sr. *

The stars are for returning starters. The two deep is solid as well. Many ACC teams are returning a lot of talent, but we should be very, very good next year.

On O the OL is mostly back which is huge. I hope the TE pass becomes an option. The QB play is key, but I just don't see how the dropoff can be severe.

We Need To Get ...

Michael Johnson on the field more. I know Robertson and Oliver are good but MJ has the tools to be something special. I would not be surprised to see Oliver gain some weight and move inside. Neither Walker nor Anyaibe seemed very effective there. I thought Daryl Richard had a good year but I expect some All Star like performances out of him in the future. CB is a potential weakness and if Gastn comes back strong I wouldn't be surprised to see J. Lewis play there some. Did you notice he was on the bench injured on that last big throw that Wake hit Saturday? It appeared they went right for it when he was out.

Re: We Need To Get ...

I did not notice that.

I am also surprised by the MJ rotation currently, but I'm no expert, so I defer to Tenuta. I agree that the ideal front four would probably include Adam inside at 285. Although the very best defense VT rotates way more than us on the DL going 7-8 deep and playing everyone tons.

I stated it a couple of weeks ago and I'll say it again. We will beat Uga next year. Mark it down.

You forgot Calvin! (I can dream, can't I?!?!?)

One correction of fact: Gary Guyton will be a senior next year...he never redshirted.

Opinions: I would look for Trey Dunmon and Cord Howard to push for a starting position...even over some of those who have started for awhile. I think Rhodes and McManus will feel most of that pressure...not because they are doing anything wrong...just because Dunmon and Howard are doing a lot right.

I also expect that Nick Claytor will compete with AJ Smith for time...we will see...it is a tough position to play as a freshman...but Nat Dorsey did it.

Vance Walker just keeps getting better...and keep in mind that he started school one year younger than most kids....he will keep getting bigger.

Next year should be one heck of a year for the defense as well with SEVEN SENIOR STARTERS.
