This really shows how hard the staff is getting after it this year and the approach seems to be working.

Keep in mind that these are self-reported numbers through interviews with the players, nothing official at all.

Also...before anyone freaks out...this is not a site comparison...just showing the sheer number of kids that our staff has been reaching out to.

I also have to say that the sites are doing a great job of keeping up with the early recruiting season, because there used to be a dead time...not any longer!

Scout shows 48 offers and 195 players with GT in their list of schools.

Rivals shows 51 offers and 367 players with GT in their list of schools.

So is this more evidence that David Wilson was dead weight and a terrible hire?

Easily the worst staff member I can remember since Bill Lewis was Head Coach. Dave Wilson will never be around coaching football again, and if he is, then that's a sure sign that whoever hired him should be thrown out on his ass. I think he's peddling sports products now. For a guy who coached Derrick Brooks in High School... he rode that horse to a much longer career than he ever should have had.

Hivered: What is the maximum of paid visits that we can offer to prospects in any given year? I'd like to see us start bringing as many prospects as possible from now on. I get the felling that we will. Am I correct?

not hivered.................

....(which s/b of great relief to mrs hivered)...but the limitations for official paid visits per year are....

56 - football
25 - baseball
12 - basketball

There is a one-year rollover of up to 6 unused football visits for an institution (MUST be used the following year).

If a multi-sport athlete visits and one of the sports is football, the visit counts toward the football total.

If a multi-sport athlete visits and one of the sports is basketball (and football is not one of the others), the visit counts toward the basketball total.

If a multi-sport athlete visits and one of the sports is baseball (and neither football nor basketball is one of the others), the visit counts toward the baseball total.

It used to be 56, not sure if that has changed. In the late 90's/early 00's we used as many as 47 or 48 per year.

I would like to see more get used as well. However, with commitments coming earlier each year, teams are using less of their official visits. Heck, Demaryius Thomas never used his last year! That being said, we definitely have not used enough of these the past couple of years relatively to our needs during that part of the recruiting season...and I am sure that will not be the case anymore if we still need a lot of kids come Dec./Jan.

One other thing has changed btw is The Hill started requiring their approval prior to visits. We even had a case last year where they changed their mind after a visit and commitment. CG is lobbying hard for changes there for the benefit of the student-athletes.

The great thing about this year's recruiting is the number of unofficial visits that we've had including kids showing up without us knowing about it ahead of time.

exactly.

That has been VASTLY different than in years past. The staff has done an incredible job with that.

Who Gailey lobbying, Dan Radakovich? The Hill? Both?

This is an area I expect Rads to make an impact.....with admissions.

panther: Not to be argumentative here.....but didn't Dave Braine say one of the reasons he was extending Chan Gailey's contract was because of his acceptance of the procedures set by the 'Hill' for recruiting visits and admissions......and his willingness to work within the restraints?

As I recall rather vividly that was the case.

CCG told a small group of us gathered in the hall on signing day morning that he had just begun to to to talk to the people on the "hill". He felt changes needed to be made in order for us to be successful.

braine was not being above board with some of his public information in my opinion.

for instance, the exception stuff. There were a couple times where Gailey was turned down on a player by The Hill...the then said he wanted to use an exception...and then they said no. Hence...that is not allowing an exception.

Braine is correct in saying Gailey embraces the fact that GT students are special...and enjoy challenges. He likes being part of a school that demands higher standards for academics, behavior, character, etc. However, he does need the ability to get a player in when he is vouching for them after visiting the kid, his parents, his coaches, his teachers, etc. and know the support system that the kid has...as opposed to those that only see the paper. That is where the rub is and I am hopeful that after Rad gets his feet under him he will be willing to fight for some leeway there. I think Braine was just "done" with it.

I like your train of thought. IMHO, if he is going to be the Head Coach and if he knows full well what is expected of himself and that of a S/A at GT, and if he himself as a HC has character and ethics as well as looking out for the best interest of GT as well as the S/A, then he definitely needs to have some leeway as well as support from the hill.

I think this is exactly what a lot of people have been saying. We don't really need easier majors imo, we need to trust our coaches to give kids who deserve a shot a chance. Then we need to provide every assistance we can to help them suceed. If the coach is wrong too many times on who he accepts and it impacts # of scholarships, etc., then you either take away the privilege or you fire them. But you can't handcuff him and expect him to win games.

Hivered, I agree with you about Dave Braine not being up front. I recall him stating that Gailey had exceptions but never chose to use them. Not once. And that is one thing a lot of fans have held against Gailey, myself included. I railed long and loud about it. Now, it is good to know that Gailey is lobbying the Hill on behalf of recruits. Gailey has to vouch for these young men and Rads has to get involved on behalf of the athletes and the coaching staff.

I spoke with Coach Gailey

for a bit right after the D-Rad press conference. One of the topics I brought up was the BS he has had to endure with the Hill.

Coach said he already had discussions about that with D-Rad and D-Rad made the comment that Coach "shouldn't have to fight those battles" and to let him (meaning D-Rad) take the lead in getting better cooperation from the Hill.

Let's hope D-Rad can make that happen. Based on his track record, I bet he can.
