Apparently Rivals is stoking a rumor about Houston Nutt and GT. I can't put my finger on it, but I just really hope this rumor isn't true.

Nutt is a heck of a football coach. Try competing in the SEC in a state that produces about 10 - 12 legitimate div 1 prospects per year.

I know there is some rumor and innuendo regarding character but I am not sure what the problems supposedly are.

"Rumor"?

Nutt recruited a highly sought after QB prospect named Mitch Mustain. The kid demanded his HS coach be hired, so Nutt made the coach his offensive coordinator last year.

A few games into the season, Nutt benches the kid and starts ignoring the coach, going back to the decidedly bad passing offense that has characterized his tenure there.

Meanwhile, a booster begins sending Mustain e-mails detailing how terrible he is. One of these e-mails begins "Hello Mr. Interception King."

After the season, Mustain transfers to USC and his coach becomes the new head coach at Tulsa.

Suddenly, a report is released on the Internet detailing the result of a Freedom of Information Act request on Nutt's cell phone records (which are public because he is supplied a phone by the university).

It turns out that there are two people Nutt was talking to a lot:
1) The booster who was harassing his own QB prospect via e-mail
2) A local easy-on-the-eyes news reporter, whom he made frequent cell phone calls to at all sorts of hours. Two noteworthy instances include calling her, calling a Holiday Inn, and then calling her back just before midnight, and text messaging her 19 minutes before the kickoff of the Capital One Bowl.

Nutt will not bring the fanbase together, that's for sure.

But there's no arguing that he's done better at Arkansas than Chan has done at Tech.

Anyone that seriously thinks Houston Nutt is a good idea has not read the chronicles on EDSBS.com.

He was sending sexy text messages to the local news anchor minutes before the kickoff of games (he's married).

I'll take Chan over that clown.

You can read the usa today story about the whole sage here http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2007-05-28-arkansas_N.htm. Nutt just doesn't pass the smell test and Nutt's passing offenses are so bad they make Gailey look like June Jones.

Also while Arkansas doesn't have a lot of Div I talent, they're next to Texas and recruit heavily there (their main alumni base is in Dallas), they currentlly have 31 Texans on their roster so their recruiting isn't that bad.

Thankfully, a lot of sources seem to indicate Nutt is the front runner for the Ole Miss job and is already negotiating terms.

asimperson,
wonders if he'll opt for the free state-supplied cell phone again
