Tech/UGA or Tech/Clem
Tech/Aub or Tech/Miami
Tech/Tenn or Tech/UVA
Tech/FL or Tech/UNC
Tech/Vandy or Tech/Duke
Tech/USC or Tech/WF

I remember those SEC teams playing at Grant Field in the mid 60's through the 70's and we put 60,000 fannies in the seats for the big games and always had 52,000 - 59,000 for the others. Heck, I went to a Tulane game in 1971 that had about 56,000 attendance and yes, the Braves, Falcons, and Hawks were all in town.

Atlanta is SEC territory and the ACC will never rule the State of Georgia. I know pigs will fly first but if the SEC ever ask, we should run, not walk, but run to sign up!!!

I would trade most the \'fans\' in BDS

for Miami's record the last 25 years. Fans don't matter to me. Wins do. MNC's do.

Of course I go to see GT play Duke in Durham. I go to see GT not Duke.

Hmmm.

So in order to have 10K to 15K more season ticket holders, you want to guarantee that we will forever get the leftover high school players after UGA picks the best?

If you can explain why I, as a GT fan, wouldn't have to give up all hope of ever beating UGA regularly to do so, I'll support an SEC switch.

The hope that the ACC passes the SEC and GT 'chooses' the players first is a slim hope, but it is all I got.

Re: And also, I would trade most the \'fans\' in BD

exactly...good point crew.

I roadtripped to one Tech game while I was a student-- GT vs. Navy. Not exactly an exciting matchup, but I was there to see the jackets and not the opponent. And when Tech hopefully plays at West Point in a few years, I'll head to that one as well.

Plus, the SEC blows in basketball...

Disagree On Effects On Recruiting...

I think having an SEC schedule will get us more in state athletes as well as help us improve on states we already get a few players out of like LA, FL, AL, TX,& SC. I just don't see the ACC passing the SEC in ATL or GA as well as the state I listed above. The only area I could the ACC making inroads against the SEC is S. Florida.

Good point S Ga.

I don't think anyone can seriously argue that Tech/most acc
can come close to heating the blood like sec games do.
The exceptions, imo are clemson and fsu. UVA comes pretty close for me.

For fun, I will list my acc passionmeter.
1) clemmons /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
2) fsu need to beat
3) uva
4) ncsu just rednecks
5) tie. vpi and um
7) unc
8) wake
9) umd
10) BC I guess
11) duke who cares

Are you suggesting that...

we would not be UGA's whipping boy WRT recruiting? I think it is clear we would be a big #2.

I will argue that if the ACC is recognized as being clearly better than the SEC, we will outrecruit UGA in the state of Georgia. Parents and coaches might steer kids to UGA, but in the end most kids will do what makes the most sense.

I believe one of the major reasons UGA recruits better than us because the SEC is (was)considered better than the ACC.

Well I think that the sec recruits better in the southeast because the sec has a much more passionate following. Nothing more.

Re: Are you suggesting that...

that's true now. but if the ACC reaches a point where kids consider it superior, that will change their views on where they want to play. just like basketball.

Re: Hmmm.

TOTALLY opposite is true. We would become more attractive to qualified S/As in this state, not less attractive.

And if you think there are no athletes at SEC schools that could graduate here, you are very mistaken.

Re: Are you suggesting that...

They, the SEC schools, also get a HEAP MORE EXPOSURE in the media!! And, girls!

Now if we join the SEC we will get more girls?

Are you a writer for Maxim or just being silly?

I KNOW there are 25 qualified SAs in the SEC. They don't want to go to Vandy, a school with plenty of girls, a good rep, a varied curriculum, and no higher math requirement because it blows to lose. Why would they want to go to GT over UGA? GT has less girls, is much harder, has limited majors, and loses to UGA regularly.

I don't think Atlanta is that huge of a sell to in state kids. Those who grew up here or in the suburbs take it for granted and those who grew up in the sticks can be sold on staying in the sticks by a used car salesman like Richt. As it is we have one significant difference. The ACC. We go to Miami every other year and play with National, not regional implications. We will go to Boston once in a SA's career. We go to DC. We also actually have interesting OOC matchups in interesting places like Annapolis, Provo, and West Point, but that is besides the point.

To compete in the SEC financially we would have to play seven home games and schedule three patsies minimum. If you look carefully at UGA's schedule, they play two good home games per year, three if we are on the schedule. We would have three most years unless we added a neutral site game.

UT, UF, UGA, USCe, UK, VU. Not horrible assuming we replace VU. If UT swapped to the west it gets pretty bad. If Ark left and we were in the West it is LSU, Bama, AU, MSU, Ole Miss and UGA is our set opponent. Most of whom are pretty solid drives, and make UGA look like the ivory tower of academia.

So best case is VU leaves. UT or UF, UGA or USCe, UK or Miss, and one of Bama/LSU/AU/MSU/ARK is the set home schedule. A 3/5ths chance of three interesting home games and a 2/5th chance of two interesting home games.

I'm sorry, but I don't get it. As a bonus, UT is the only school where the 'fans' are in the same pitiful league as UGA's knuckledraggers, so we would have that to look forward to. Basketball will head into the toilet.

The only way to beat UGA regular is to outrecruit UGA. The only way to outrecruit UGA is to find something different that can be capitalized on to overcome the 'history' in this state. For me that is the ACC and the very real potential that it will be THE football conference.

What happened to Ole Missed, Missed State, Kentucky, and Arkansas. Who'd care a hoot about playing them? Basically any school nearby would be a good rivalry and not nearby would be just a conference game.
