Okay, so we aren’t a football factory:

To summary the FOCers reasons for supporting Chan:
Georgia Tech is not a football factory; a coach has to work extra hard to find players to meet higher academic standards, recruit nationwide, yada, yada, and yada. We can't do any better, so lets' stick with him, and have more time to develop his system.(with his players.)

So help me out, what system? Let’s talk offense, which most agree Gailey is heavily involved.
There is no system. He does like to run the ball between the tackles with a big back Are you kidding me, a power running game? Georgia Tech isn’t football factory. The power running game couldn’t even work for Auburn last year with two top running backs.

Shouldn’t we use a smarter approach, taking what the defense gives us? Like Teunta’s defense does now, they don’t come straight at the offense. They come from different directions with different people.
Let’s use our smarter players to read the defense and adjust. Does the offense do that now? Hell, we can’t get a play called in time to make a change under center.
Do we get receivers open in space? Not much. Every completion now must be close to perfect, because we only go to the primary receiver.

Of course, it will always come down to QB play for an offense to be successful. I chose to believe RB has the tools to be a good QB? Is the coaching staff helping him become successful?
What’s the plan when the other team comes with a blitz?
Do we have time to change plays under center?
90% percent of the passes are thrown to the primary receiver. How hard is it for the free safety to read RB? With 20+ starts under his belt, what additional tools have the coaches developed for RB, that he didn’t already have?
Read the blitz?
How to avoid the rush?
Run a two-minute offense?
Find a secondary receiver?
Look off the free safety?

Three years in, has Chan developed a single player on his rooster to play QB with the basic tools needed to execute a basic offense? How many years before Chan can find a college QB who happens to be in high school?

Guys, I know you love him, but I just can’t see why.

Well written, and thought out. I'M WITH YOU! I was a focr for 2 years but now I have run out of excuses for this guy. UNC, VT, Va, Ugag. Nothing else needs to be said!

Foggy, good to see you posting again. What made you decide to come back?

Excellent point Bibbster

"Three years in, has Chan developed a single player on his roster to play QB with the basic tools needed to execute a basic offense? How many years before Chan can find a college QB who happens to be in high school?"

Andy Hall, A J Suggs, Bilbo, Ball, and Carter and the other 2nd and 3rd stringers.....not a one has panned out at quarterback under Captain Excitement. Heck, I think A J Suggs was at least as good as Ball... and Suggs couldn't hit the side of a barn.
Could all of these players not have what it takes to play Div 1 college ball? I doubt it.
Gailey started Ball two years ago to buy time, pure and simple. I said it then, and it has truely bought Gailey some time. Don't be surprised if he tries the same trick next year. Luckily for those like us who see Gailey for what he is, his bought time (and contract) is running out.

BOO

Someone wrote a long thesis on our coaching situtation. He had many facts incorrect and many omissions so I felt if noone else would post the corrections I would. I did, he responded then I wrote seveal more corrections and he has not responded since. Go read it's called you guys that want to fire Chan. Plus I just bumped it to the top.

I see it. Must have overlooked it. Glad to have ya back though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

not Chan\'s fault....

that he has not had good material to work with and has had to deal with flunkgate and has had to deal with academics and has had to deal with pressure and has had to deal with the NCAA and has had to deal with sorry fans and has had to deal with sniping on the internet. IT's really unfair to put any expectations on him.

Bingo. Teaching up high school players is not happening at this somewhat important position.

Good, logical thinking and writing, Bibb. Only two comments from me:
1. Be prepared that in the minds of some, your 51 posts may not be enough to qualify you to know anything, and
2. It's been almost 48 hours since your post, and you haven't been accused yet of being a dawg-in-disguise. Amazing!

bibb stinger, your post is great. the reason they support him is they are holding out hope and dont want disruption to the program. he will never take us to a higher level, we are a 6 or 7 win mediocre team and will remain that until we accept the fact we need a new head football coach.

I make no excuses about being a fan of Chan's. Auburn might not have had a power running game last year but 12-0 this year and a great power game go tthem to a BCS bowl. Given time this coach will develop the OL to make this offense work. I like the fact that the QB position is up again which it should be. Stop putting all the blame for not developing RB, maybe he doesn't get it but that was our only option. Maybe he will get it this winter and spring or he will be sitting on the bench. I for one don't make excuses but the pure dislike you have for this coach amazes me. And for all the we except mediocrity crap, screw y'all none of us here except that. Give the man a chance to instill his program to these kids. They have bought in to what Chan is selling and personally that's what we need to grow this program. It's about trust and if you don't have it then we are headed no where just like the Lewis years and the end of the O'leary regime. and after 5 years i'm sure spurrier or johnson or myer or whomever the flavor of the week is will be around in 2006 as well.

Good post John!

RM:
You're missing my point. The problem is a failure to develop anyone, nada, zero, at the QB position in three years.
Did you watch UT's third string QB in the SEC champ?
Auburn executed at offense this year, with a QB who was light years ahead of last year. Why? The coaches gave him some reads, and some plays to help him be successful.
Same QB, new coach, new scheme.

A major reason that he was better this year was the offensive line. Last year, every pass was thrown with a defender in his face. I remember him just laying on the turf at Grant Field in total frustration.

i'm wid u, John. As we say on the course, well done.
