Ole Miss delays series

http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/tech/entries/2008/12/04/replacing_ole_m.html

The Rebels want to delay our series with them until later in the 2010's. D-Rad is accepting that request and says we'll be able to replace those 2010 and 2011 games with a quality opponent.

I guess the delay is so they can grow a sack. Sallies.

of course we all knew this was coming....Ole Miss asked for this the week after the Miss St. game.

but now comes the worst part....a massive string of posts with people stating who we should play

Why are they backing out? Do they honestly think they need time to develop as a team/program before they play GT?

They need more time (a few more years) to practice against the option. The Ugag game proved to them two weeks wasn't long enough.

Houston Nutt is yellow. He hates playing quality teams out of conference because "the SEC is so tough." His MO is to load up with 4 automatic wins out of conference so that 2 SEC wins guarantees him a bowl, and 4-4 in the SEC guarantees him a good bowl game due to the SEC bowl tie-ins.

The good news is that if the series is delayed (and I have doubts we'll ever play them), he'll have all his players in place by then, meaning they will either be down or he'll be gone. This guy has made a handsome living by winning with other people's players.

Does anyone have our schedule for next year? Team-wise (not dates or anything)

Is that a hidden shot\pun? I like it. Maybe we can find a quality opponent. sign up Ohio State, Texas, TT, or Penn St! Lets get a ringer of a game!

Next year is:

11-28 Georgia
10-31 @ Vanderbilt
TBA Jacksonville State
-----
Clemson
Wake Forest
@ Florida State
@ Virginia
@ Duke
North Carolina
@ Miami FL
Virginia Tech

As for WHO to play, upon about 10 mins of research here is what I have found:

Southern Cal and Penn St. have openings in 2011/'12/'13
Ohio St. Michigan, Oklahoma St, Wisconsin all have 2010 open and openings in the '12/'13/'14 range.

I'd love to play a Big 10 and then USC. I think if I had the pick, I'd go with Michigan in 2010 (time for Rich Rod to get is offense going) and USC in 2011.

So not to get into the "who we should play" discussion, cause that will just be a fustercluck, but are their any other teams out there looking to fill 2010 and 2011 spots?

Florida State 2 years in a row? Damn, that should be fun.

All you have to do is go undefeated in a BCS conference to make the national championship game guys.
Why in the world would we want to add Southern Cal. Fun for fans...but not smart.

DRad is smart...when he says add a Big East/Big 10 opponent....he means Syracuse, Indiana, etc. He added Ole Miss when they were garbage.

FSU 2 years in a row is basic ACC protocol. We play the 5 from our division and Clemson every year. Then 2 others that are "floating" teams.

So, for example,we played BC and Maryland last year (had played MD the year before); finished BC this year and played FSU, finish FSU next year, play Wake; finish Wake and then (I think) NC St., etc.......

I say we get some games that will be interesting, if not big names. Get UCF up here, get GSU or GSU. There's plenty of what I'd call good matchups that don't involve a Top 10 team.

bingo...but not either GSU.

Names that come to mind are:

Central Florida
Syracuse
Purdue

Maybe we can move Lousiville back up. Didn't we bump them to make room for Miss St?

As I remember, a large part of the difficulty of replacing Army on the schedule this year is that we couldn't give anyone good a home-and-home series. I would think that there's a good chance whoever we end up getting we'll be playing both those years, ie., we won't get anyone to come here just for one year without a return trip.

I'm guessing Ole Miss is simply getting greedy and wants more home ticket revenue sooner.
