My all time hero, Coach Robert Lee Dodd, orchestrated my favorite football game ever; a 7-6 win over an unbeaten Bama team riding a 26 game win streak. While I was but a tiny kid at the time, the game was always legendary in southern football lore. What is even better is the story of Kim King and his family being recruited that morning by the Bear at the Georgian Terrace hotel...priceless. It is all written in both Dodd's Luck and Kim King's; Tales From The Georgia Tech Sideline.

Obviously my favorite game too. The entire Graning-Holt drama played out like a WWE plot. Photos of Chick Graning's battered face from the year before on the front page of the Journal. The good guys in the white (gold) hats won a big, big game that day. Still the loudest stadium I have ever been in when Don Toner grabbed that interception to seal the game. When you watch the films, that game had everything. Blocked punt, faked punt, failed 2 point conversion. On pins and needles the whole game. Bear, needing only two points, already in field goal range with about 2 minutes left, inexplicably throws a pass, it gets tipped and flutters to Toner--and the rest is history. A side note, after the previous year's game and the national debate on dirty play and football brutality, no penalties on either team all day.
 
The greatest memory of my childhood with my Dad is going to that game. Not a pretty day, but a glorious day.

My Dad tried forever to get some tickets but never could, until finally, of all places, he got 2 from a gentleman who was the owner of a Buick dealership in - Tuscaloosa Alabama!

As previously mentioned the game had everything. I remember in particular when they crowd was shocked when Lothridge stepped back from under center and went into the - Shotgun! Quite unique then.

On both teams there was a ton of talent. Guthrie, Martin, Lothridge, namath, Jorden - man a bunch of guys who went to the nfl.

Strange, but just last week I was at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville paying my respects to Mr. Lothridge. Of course, after that we had to go to Johnny’s BBQ, where they still have pictures of Billy the Kid and the Jolly Green Giant on the Wall.

I am glad to do it! And you are right, there was some absolutely a bunch of AMAZING talent on that field.

While that was a very "clean" game, it was also very physical. To this day, Namath will say that was the hardest he has ever been hit, including NFL. I see Mickey Andrews from time to time, and he said it was a VERY physical game. That 1962 Tech team was very good, and only a couple of bad bounces away from being undefeated
 
My 2nd all-time game ('99 Ugag #1)---i was away at college and the AD ran a contest before the game--everyone in his PE programs predicted the score. Winner didn't have to "participate" in the semester finals. I was the ONLY one to have the winner! Being a lifelong TECH fan just made it sweeter.

Johnny's BBQ is great, I try to make it there regularly. Be sure to try the wings next chance you get.
Our first home here was in the Martin's Landing subdivision that was developed by Billy.

Lost two games late; Auburn and LSU, they shoulda won....really could have been undefeated. Destroyed UGA in Athens 37-6

No, I think you have him confused with the legendary ESPN announcer Robert Lee....who also owns a chain of Chinese takee-outees!
