Once again we are 7 pt underdogs

I too prefer the castrated turkey definition for Hokie....however apparently the explanation offered by VT dispels this more desirable choice.

I think that entire article is a load written to make them sound less lame then they are. They should embrace their heritage. They could be gay cowboys, after all. After reading that site though, I think I'm going to call them the VPISU Fighting Gobblers.

Straight from Dictionary.com:

Main Entry: hokie
Part of Speech: n
Definition: an emasculated turkey

cited from the Webster's New Millennium Dictionary of English

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, including dictionary.com and Wikipedia.com. UVa fans know how to use the internet, too.

A hokie is not a turkey or any other animal. It is nothing, actually.

VT used to be the Fighting Gobblers and that is where the mascot comes from.

The Hokie moniker comes from the school cheer: "Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hi!
Tech, Tech, V-P-I!"

VPI was the Fighting Gobblers but now we are supposed to ignore that they were the Fighting Gobblers and they have a mascot now which is a Fighting Gobbler? They sound like castrated turkeys to me. Too funny.

If a Hokie really is "nothing" then I feel like there is a joke to be made about their math department and dividing by a hokie.

/got nothing right now.
//give it time

I'll take being an underdog all day long.

QFT.

Let us stay under the radar all season long. I hope we aren't even ranked unless we get to 6-0 heading to Clempsun. Even then, I hope we're 20 pt dogs. IMO this team has embraced the role of cast-offs and is feeding off the idea of proving every "expert" wrong.

I think they are more afraid of Paul Johnson kicking their asses.

This kind of attitude has to go if you guys want success out of this program. Get some self-confidence and ASK to be ranked. CPJ is the coach who will be the favorite to win and ALSO win the game.

Gailey did several upset wins in his time, what he lacked was winning when it mattered most, when we were ranked high! That's what CPJ is going to bring and get rid of this lack of self-confidence.

No, Gailey won some big upsets and then he would lose the very next week to a sub par team !!

Yep. Remember, he lost to Duke!!! :wtf: While it did come off the heels of an impressive win at Miami, there is just no excuse for that!

It was actually in 03 when we lost to Duke. We didnt play Miami till 04. But your point is right on regardless.

Gailey's one big problem was that he put a goose egg up against the Great Satan. He wins half of those games, and he's still our coach.

What Gailey has to do with us being 7 point underdogs this week though, I haven't the fainest idea.

I like Gailey, but he was a pro coach. Paul Johnson is a college coach. More then that though, he's always good for an amusing quote in the paper.
