Wooohooo, I can almost taste it!

One more day and toe meets leather.

Is there anything more exciting that the beginning of another season? Possiblities abound, there is a freshness in the air (even if temps remain in the 90s). At this time every matchup seems exciting and new. Soon we will find out who will be the surprises and who will be the posers. New faces will become household names - who will they be?

Who else is psyched?

What game are you looking forward to most this weekend? I may end up going to the VT game if I can wrangle some cheap (or free) tickets. We have 3 ACC teams in action. I'm interested to see what UVa's got. I think they could lose.

Here's the schedule this weekend:

August 22 - JIM THORPE CLASSIC @Charlottesville, VA
Colorado State at Virginia (7:30 Fox Sports Net South & Comcast Sports Net)

August 23 - JOHN THOMPSON FOUNDATION CLASSIC @Madison, WI
Fresno State at Wisconsin (8:00 ESPN)

August 24 - PIGSKIN CLASSIC @Columbus, OH
Texas Tech at Ohio State (2:30 ABC)

August 24 - BLACK COACHES ASSOCIATION BOWL @Raleigh, NC
New Mexico at North Carolina State (4:30 FOX Sports Net National Broadcast)

August 24 - BLACK COACHES ASSOCIATION CLASSIC @Lincoln, NE
Arizona State at Nebraska (7:45 ESPN)

August 24 - EDDIE ROBINSON CLASSIC @Kansas City, MO
Florida State vs. Iowa State (8:30 FOX Sports Net National Broadcast)

August 25 - HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND CLASSIC @Blacksburg, VA
Arkansas State at Virginia Tech (2:00 ESPN Regional)

I just noticed that we've got most of the minority groups covered in this opening week...
Jim Thorpe - American Indian
Eddie Robinson, BCA, John Thompson - African-American

Hispanics also.

We need someone to come up with the Asian Classic.

Compare this to the clearly discriminatory PIGSKIN CLASSIC.

I say UVA gets bounced. I'm not sure but I think
CSU is supposed to be a good football team this year. Nevertheless, it'll be good to get peeks at the 'hoos, NCST, and the semenholes. I'm also going to pull for TTU over OSU. I think they can take 'em. THWG.

Because it's the start of a new seaon I'm REAL interested in all of the game.

Will watch UVA, NCST, and FSU closely. First games usually don't tell a lot honestly, but want to see how these teams look.

Will be pulling for all ACC. What's good for ACC is good for GT. Those teams winning help the conference.

UVA is playing Col st, S.C., and fsu the first 3 games

It will be interesting to see how they perform

Remember last year, Fresno State beat 3 ranked teams to start the year, Wisconsin was one. If they beat Wisconsin again, look for the hype machine to start again. This is my top game.

I also see UVA getting beat by Colorado St. On TV. At home. In the first game of the year. By a team not in the Big 6 conferences. UVA should be kicking themselves for scheduling this game.

Virginia Tech had over 40 players get the flu last week, completely disrupted practices. Also don't know how well the players are. I think they could beat ASU with their third string, but I'll watch it on CSS since it's the only game on Sunday. Very remote chance it could be interesting. Also the starting QB (Grant Noel) tore his ACL in the spring, but will be starting. Interesting.

Looking forward to the FSU game, but should be no contest.

Also, Texas Tech at Ohio State could be good. OSU is ranked high this year, would be an ugly loss for them.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Look for Marcus Vick to be starting by mid season. Especially if they lose a game or 2 they shouldn't. Back-up Bryan Randall all but being given the starting job but won't take it. Got to love Noel's toughness regardless.

With Kevin Jones and Lee Suggs in the backfield they can beat many teams on their schedule without throwing a pass.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Got to think Wisconson is looking for some big time revenge here. FSU lost #1 pick Carr so there's no way they're as good. Plus Wisconson was really young last year. Have to think they are gonna be back near the top of the Big 10+1 this year. I think Wisconson is ripe to rout.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Refresh my momory. Who was Carr? As I recall they were a very senior team last year anyways.
