One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

and I'm glad to see him on the field. Great game Mr. Houston!

I can't believe I'm so pissed after a win.

I was watching that game on TV and I SWEAR I went NUTS when I saw Tony in the game on his last play. What are they doing? Trying to kill him? Well they did.

Great win, Chan. That may be the last in a while.

Re: One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

As I said above, stupid comment. The game wasn't over yet and he's our stud RB. If we fumble BYU can still get back in it. I'm as upset as anyone that he got hurt but it was a freak play.

Hester and Houston looked special. Cox was no slouch. It is amazing how good your corners will look when a good rush scheme gets some pressure on the QB! Good job by Hargrove and Henderson also.

Q for you, kirbee - did you go nuts before the play or after? I bet if you are honest with yourself and this board, you will admit that you wanted to see Hollings get the ball to run out the clock and nail BYU for good, and you only got on your "coaches as killers" kick after the injury.

I bet you probably would have been booing the Tech players earlier in the game if you had been in the stadium - you seem the type.

GO JACKETS!!

I just don't get some of these posts...last week, after losing to Clemson, lots of whining about NOT playing Hollings enough; now because HE WAS in the game, bet those same posters are the ones questioning that! This was a close game and we never know what will happen in any given circumstance. This wasn't anyone's fault. Get behind Tony and wish him well and be a Tech fan with class. Please!

Aiken - BEFORE the play.

1. Know the game situation: Two possesion game under 4 minutes.
2. Defense is playing lights out (unlike previous games you all mentioned).
3. Ball is on BYU's side of the field.
4. ACE was good enough to go in and score a critical TD earlier in the game. He was good enough to go in when Tony had an equipment problem. He will have to be good enough this week.
5. Tony injured the knee earlier in the game.
6. Tony was exahusted - 36+ carries is too many.
7. Injuries are more likely when people are tired.

If it is not obvious what should have been done, then I can't do nothing for ya man.

The saying does not go "RIDE THE HORSE THAT BROUGHT YOU EVEN UNTO DEATH"

Disagree if you must, but you ain't changing my mind.

Re: One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

Whether or not Tony should have been in the game is very debatable. He had been injured earlier, and was dog tired. Those are facts.
.
It's one of many coaching questions that I left the stadium with.

Bleedgold, Nice to have met you yesterday and thanks for the brew. I like you am dismayed at some of the comments here! I guess we will just have to live with some of these boo birds.

Kirbee,

I'm with you on this one. We're up 9 with less than 4 minutes to go against a team whose total defense is currently ranked 93rd. Hollings already has 30+ carries on a miserably hot and humid day and they still want to run him. Oh, maybe BYU thought we'd use him as a decoy. When I saw him out there BEFORE it happened, I thought to myself "what the heck are they thinking" Although the injury was a non-contact occurrence, IMO, fatigue had to be a huge factor.

I hope things aren't as bad as we all think they probably are regarding the injury, but at any rate, the offense better start picking it up to match the defensive side of the ball, which played very well, considering the amount of time they were on the field.

Re: One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

It was hotter than HADES, unbelievably humid, Hollings had already carried the ball 35 times (10 over Buck's goal of 25), Hollings had already strained that same knee and was playing through the injury, Ace had already did a magificent job filling in for Hollings, we were two scores ahead with less than 4 min to go, there was no reason to have Hollings in the game or give him the ball.
I questioned why he was still in the game before he got hurt. There was no reason not to have been using Ace...especially with the performance that Ace had already put on.
It was a freak injury, primarily because he tripped over the o-lineman and landed funny, but why he needed a 36th carry will be a tough question to, and hard to, justify an answer to.

Let's hope that it is just a strain.

Re: One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

While I at the time was questioning the call to leave Hollings in the game, this article changed my mind about it:

http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/sports/gatech/0902/23hollings.html

More specifically, this quote from Tony, "I told him I was good to go," Hollings said Sunday. "He said if I felt any pain he would take me out."

"I wasn't concerned about it," Hollings said. "I just wanted to go back out there and finish up the game and everything. It wasn't like it was a major pain, hurting or anything. It was just a slight pain, and I figured I could push through it."

Tony asked to go back in. Gailey let him. That's all there was to it. I can't argue with that at all. Remember, the whole reason he's our RB is because he wanted to play it bad enough that he asked for it. Chan listened to him then, and it worked out.

Hindsight is 20/20. If ACE had been in, fumbled, and BYU returns it for a TD, I'll bet $1000 that there'd be hundreds of people on the Hive and here wondering why the hell Tony wasn't in. 20/20, you know?

Re: One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

To follow that up with an on-topic response, Houston kicked some yesterday, didn't he? Man, wish I could have been there(I saw the first half on TV, then had to go to a wedding, and yes, I did sell my ticket to a Tech fan).

Speaking of rocking defensive performances, did you guys catch Brooking last night? Laid a hit on a guy(can't remember the name...I think Keith smeared it off his jersey) that I'll remember for a while. Always good to see Tech guys make great plays. Incidentally, this happened while Jimmy Carter, another Tech guy, was telling the nation that he watched "Tech beat BYU yesterday".

Re: One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

Just because a team doctor gives approval for a player to play doesn't mean the coach should put him in. Buck already knew that Hollings had strained his knee and had already carried 35 times (10 more carries than Buck's already stated policy on Hollings). Also, we were two scores ahead and ACE had already done an outstanding job in the game.
Any back could potentially fumble, especially an exhausted one, so that is a completely specious argument.
I am not second guessing Buck....I stated my opinion at the game, before the second injury, that we were asking for it by keeping Hollings in the game.
It is not Buck's fault that Hollings knee gave way but it was poor judgement to have him in the game at that time... and many of us didn't need hindsight to see that.

Re: One more thing: #26 is a freakin\' baller

I agree...
In my experience, a disproportionate number
of injuries appear when players are fatigued, plus, I was wondering BEFORE the injury what he was doing in there...At that time in the game, we needed a "pounder" -- I thought ACE would be perfect in that scenario....If Hollings had only carried 10-15 times I'd still have put ACE in at that point
