Just wondering:
1-What type of OT will be best suited for CPJ's offense? Will a player like PJ Daniels 6'7" 320 lb. be what's needed or will a smaller faster/quicker man be what CPJ will look to?
2-What about the Fullbacks? Will the same thinking apply there too?
3- What type Defense will CPJ be using with the material that he has to work with? Will he want a CJT type or ????

I don't think that size is as important for PJ's OL as is speed and quickness. If a guy like Daniels can run, he'll be fine. But if he's better suited as a pass blocker, he'll have to learn to block for the run or someone else will take his place.

As far as his FB is concerned, PJ wants a player who is quick and tough. Remember that the FB in PJ's scheme will get hit on every play, unless he breaks it for a TD. The perfect candidate is a kid who's 5'10" to 6'1" and 215-225. He will have to have a burst out of his stance, great vision and balance. The right FB in this offense will rush for 1,500 yards a season.

PJ defenses in the past have been more reactive than attacking with blitzes, but my gut feeling is that he will change to more of an attacking D because he will be able to recruit better defensive players at GT than anywhere else he's been.

Look at the OTs he has recruited. Size isn't as important as speed and ability to move in space. Look at what Phil said in the paper in tampa, and what he does. Tackles in PJ's offense have to be able to block on LBs and hunt down safeties.

Phil was the first OT recruited by Spencer, and he is a 6-6 280 lb BB playing OT averaging 11/game.

We won't just need to learn to run block, but he will have to learn to block linebackers which can be very difficult for a big man.

from Navy
the C and OGs will need to be big bulls, oddly the Tackles will need to be quicker in space and prob smaller

I know that one of the plays in PJ's offense is a WR screen. The offside tackle has to pull down the line to provide the kickout block on the CB or S that come up to the receiving WR. That takes speed and quickness.

You just confused the crap out of me. 1st you ask about the O. Tackles. Then reference PJ Daniels, GT's Running Back from 2002-2005. Then you say PJ weighed 320 lbs?

Next, you ask if the FB will be similar to the OT's?

I R Confused.

Scuze me sir,
I confuse myself more than any of you.
I intended to write T.J. Barnes from Enterprize, AL. but my mind drifted on me.
Please forgive

T.J. Barnes was recruited to play DEFENSE.

It is still a valid question. Can a player LIKE TJ Barnes play OT for CPJ?

I think we need to take the word "smaller" out of our answer to this question. True, size and power at tackle are less emphasized for CPJ's scheme, and mobility and ability to hit on the run are emphasized, but no one is looking for "smaller" tackles right now.

We would love someone TJ's size have the mobility to play OT for CPJ, but don't expect it. We will get them as big and powerful as we can, fulfilling the athletic need first.

He's obviously speaking in code.

I would think that Gardner and Smith are ideal OTs for CPJ. Ask again toward the end of October. It should be obvious at that point.
