Our current BCS Standing

I found it odd that we even show up in the BCS top 50. However we are there for some reason even though we score a 0 for most of the criteria. Here are some teams we are currently trying to catch up to.

Troy, Houston and Air Force are all programs we should aspire to someday catch up to.
 
That is sad. Troy is having a pretty good season, but the rest of those teams. HA!

Let's have a show of hands from the young men on our team that when they left high school with a scholarship to Georgia Tech--thought they might be ranked behind Troy. You should see the programs that are in the 20's and 30's. And yet there are those among us that like the status quo--are good with where we are and where we are headed. Amazing.

No. I am saying we have the program that the fan base obviously wants. I don't call 49th in a 119 team race mediocre. It's bad. And we are bad and we are going to stay bad.
 
We are #21 in the Sargarin rankings and in the 20s in a few other computer polls.

If you think this is what the "fan base wants" then you are mistaken. Please name me one single fan that wants to be bad.

I hope what you meant to say was that the fan base is divided on whether coaching and other changes are needed.

Well, first of all we're not where I want or expect our program to be. But defining 49 out of 119 as anything other than mediocre is stupid. It's clearly not bad, it's middle of the road. We can all see your desire for the program to improve, but making arguments that are just dumb isn't a way to convince people that your opinion is correct, especially for a fan base as literal minded and precise as Tech's. Did you way you went here?

I agree - there are 70 teams that would rather have our program than theirs. Meeting GT fan's expectations - no. Bad - no. Slightly better than average - yes.

To the other point, it is disgusting that Troy or a service academy is ever ranked in any poll above us.
DRad has implied to all that have written that a change would not be made until the year is over.

No way he even implies this unless CG is lame ducking it (save a miracle). I can't hold him to it of course, but I will trust him.

SO, why does 'last year's sniff of glory and a BCS pay day' mean nothing? When was the last time this coach led our team to a 6-6 record? And based upon your own prognostication, he is due to win 2 of the next four games against the dawgs.

Of course, in your alternate universe there are 117 other teams that are failing this year too. It isn't a matter of contentment. It's a matter of reality. You can't say for any more certainty that this coach is more or less likely to return our team to the ACCCG and a shot at a BCS pay day next year than any other coach you might think we are able to hire. But I damn sure prefer to start at a 7 win baseline and work my way up than throw it all in the ****ter on a pipe dream.

But in regards to your logic. The BCS, like all the computer polls, changes weekly based on your own results, the results of the teams you've played and I think the results of teams those teams have played. The point is it's a moving target. Ours will rise by the end of the year by virtue of playing VT and ugag, the two highest ranked teams we play with the exception of BC. At the end of the year we will likely be much higher than where we are now. So if you're going to whine about where we are now, what will you say if we end up in the top 25 in the BCS? Don't use stuff you really don't care about to prove a point, it may come back to bite you.
 
As much as anyone I don't particularly care for CCG's style of coaching and hope an adjustment is made. It seems though lots of people are keen to call us a mediocre team/program when in fact I think the problem is the mediocre record, which is different. We are basically a poor kick coverage away for 2 losses and one terrible coaching series away from 1 loss.

The problem I see it is that we've taken a good, talented team and been coached back toward a mediocre record. The talent and enthusiasm is definately not mediocre it just seems to be the outcome.

You misunderstood, or perhaps I wasn't clear. I meant last years sniff of glory and a big payday means nothing to the "settle for Chan and mediocrity" crowd. My point was-I give Chan credit for establishing that we can be a big time program again, we can swing for the fences, we can be competitive at the highest levels of NCAA football---we have all the ingredients now except coaching. But it is the fear of 2-10 that will keep us from 10-2 and perpetually at 7-5 and on the Smurf-Turf. And I don't have an alternative universe, Dick. Live long and prosper.
